very cool! Im trying to figure out how best to make an Office/Bar. I have limited space in my boat. This gives me some ideas.

First, you have a great family willing to kick in and do whatever's needed. Second, glad to you survived you tree trimming accident. That is why I always hire arborists to do my tree work. Third, since you had the space, this was a excellent use of it. I'm no realtor but I think if you ever sell the house, the Speakeasy will add extra value to the final, total price...I know I'd pay for it. Great job and thanks for sharing with us.

Wow, thanks for all the kind words! We try to do as much stuff ourselves as we can around here so we can be selective about what we put our money into. I hate to pay someone to do work I (think I) can do 🙄. After the tree mishap, we hired someone to take down 21 trees around the property. And I'm still banned from ladders haha I plan to die in this house, hopefully a long time from now and not tree related haha. But I am curious what the place will be worth when the remodel is all done. It's a pretty unique house and we've pumped our life savings and tons of sweat equity into it!

Very cool man! A few years ago I was looking at houses and the realtor was showing one he thought I would like. In the basement there was a bookcase. I noticed it looked a little off center so I examined it and noticed if I pushed on one side it would move. So I pushed a little harder and the bookcase slide away to reveal an opening into a speakeasy. One of the coolest things I've ever seen in a house. The best part was the realtor didn't even know it was there.

You planned that accident to get out of work! Nice project! I'm jealous. I don't know if I'd do anything differently except maybe add a small TV and exhaust fan in the upper wall of the bar to draw in fresh air. I'd destroy that room for a half hour with one average bodily function.
@CityBillyAdventures2 жыл бұрын
We considered a small TV but overall we wanted an old-timey vibe in there so we decided against it. We do keep a scented candle in there to help it not smell stale. If someone floats an air biscuit in there, they won't be invited back that's for sure!

It can get a little warm if it's crowded but it's not too bad. There's an air return and HVAC vent in there

Amazing video. Super underrated. I'll be back to this when I have a bigger house with room for something like this. Question: You obviously know your way around handiwork. Was buying the run down house and doing all the work worth it in the end? Do you get the amazing sense of pride every time you walk through it?
@CityBillyAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Seriously, thanks. The kind words mean a lot! Buying the run down house was totally worth it. It's our 2nd full-time job but it's extremely rewarding. Can't stress enough how important it was that the house had good bones. It was extremely dated, but it was/is safe to live in while we remodel. Can't say that about every run-down house opportunity. Hopefully you've checked out some of our more recent videos, production quality has improved a lot since the Speakeasy project

Thanks! Our main priority was to make the office. The speakeasy was using up extra space. Of course I would like it to be a little bigger (don't we all) but we can get 2 people at the bar, 2 at the whiskey barrel table, and a bartender. It's cozy but I don't think it's cramped or anything.

Great now all you need is to stock it with bottles of liquor people might actually enjoy drinking. I see so many videos were people go through time and expense to build home bars and they almost always have nothing but cheap bottom to mid shelf liquor? Get some premium whiskey, bourbons, ryes ,scotches etc . Personally i would be much more impressed if you just had a single shelf of pappy,stagg, WLW , EH Taylor Some 20-30 yr old single malts etc.
@CityBillyAdventures3 жыл бұрын
I quite enjoy my "bottom to mid shelf" liquor, thanks. Makes sense to me to stock your bar with what you enjoy drinking. Absolut, Quervo, and Jack Daniels suit the CityBilly life just fine.
@ericas51713 жыл бұрын
@@CityBillyAdventures fwiw, I think the majority of us normal folk would consider Absolut, Cuervo, or Jack Daniels perfectly fine, good tasting brands. If I got invited to chill in a bespoke, hand crafted speakeasy with my buddies, the price tag on the liquor would be the last thing on my mind! Great video, lovely work! Great inspiration for when I make my own (which will also be stocked with Absolut and Bacardi lol)
