Absolutely awesome. Yours is the best instruction I’ve seen out of all the DIY vids. I have most the materials you’ve shown during the build. I can’t wait to get started on this & use it. Thankyou!👍🏼😃

There must be a lot of friction on the rollers as they roll (or scrape) over the screw threads. I would think it would wear out quickly. But I do like this DYI idea
@ekimmilc2 жыл бұрын
oh yes! very nice until the wheels. will be great with skate wheels w/bearings. my guess you already replaced them. but the design is good. gave me another video so watch before making my own.
@ScrapwoodCity2 жыл бұрын
Indeed I have changed them. Good luck on your build
@Rouverius7 жыл бұрын
What about adding some skateboard bearings? Wouldn't they further reduce vibrations than the plain wood ones?
@ScrapwoodCity7 жыл бұрын
yes it would. Perhaps I will replace them in future!

Any dimensions for the piece of wood you started with please? My lathe has a 12 inch swing and looks similar to your lathe

Looks good except for the wheels appear to be out of round.

Those wheels will not last long man. Those bolt threads will eat them up pretty quickly. Other than that cool build.

So far they work. But I will replace them with plastic ones at some point

Have you considered using polyurethane or bearings. Looks like the wooden rollers damage the wood you are spining.
@ScrapwoodCity7 жыл бұрын
The wooden rollers don't damage the wood at all. But the rollers themselves won't last for long. In future I will eventually replace them from skate wheels or something similar.
@hmelodesign7 жыл бұрын
Good project, but the wood rollers are off center, please fix it...

is that a copy of x, y, or x's design? Shame on you! Really does it matter? I appreciate seeing your approach to the build.

It's a really common tool accessory for a lathe. I just made one instead of buying it! Plenty of different designs out there, I just made what seemed that would work for me and was easy to make! Thanks

really nice vid mate, lots of enjoyable details. like that clamp for holding to the lathe bed, very neat. how do you think the home-made wheels will hold out? weren't you tempted to buy some rollerblade wheels?

My Thoughts also, now he has the working model, maybe go back and put the roller wheels on.

All the same it's a super job and all done without spending anything, okay, nuts and bolts. I wish I had Dimitris' energy!
@ScrapwoodCity7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I hope in future I will replace the wooden wheels. But I wanted to come up with a quick and easy solution with minimum things needed. After all, this is not an everyday tool for me. So I hope I will get away with it for quite some time!
