There must be a lot of friction on the rollers as they roll (or scrape) over the screw threads. I would think it would wear out quickly. But I do like this DYI idea

oh yes! very nice until the wheels. will be great with skate wheels w/bearings. my guess you already replaced them. but the design is good. gave me another video so watch before making my own.

What about adding some skateboard bearings? Wouldn't they further reduce vibrations than the plain wood ones?

Any dimensions for the piece of wood you started with please? My lathe has a 12 inch swing and looks similar to your lathe

Ωραία δουλειά Δημήτρη. Πολύ βολικό για τον τόρνο. Σκέφτηκες να βάλεις ροδακια απο πατίνι αντι για τα ξύλινα; Σε ρωτάω γιατι ισως να ειχαν λιγοτερο τζογαρισμα καθως γυρνάνε.

Μπραβο φίλε.......ο καλός ο μάστορας φτιάχνει τα δικά του εργαλεία.........με οτι μέσα διαθέτει........πάντα υπάρχουν περιθώρια για βελτιώσεις, αλλά στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση δεν μας ενδιαφέρει........αξιολεπτομερέστατος για μια ακόμα φορά.........

Those wheels will not last long man. Those bolt threads will eat them up pretty quickly. Other than that cool build.

i had an idea to share with you for so long and i always forget about it :D why don'y you make a tiny water or wind mill with a tiny mechanism. gears always evoke such sweet emotions in people!

Have you considered using polyurethane or bearings. Looks like the wooden rollers damage the wood you are spining.

The wooden rollers don't damage the wood at all. But the rollers themselves won't last for long. In future I will eventually replace them from skate wheels or something similar.

It's a really common tool accessory for a lathe. I just made one instead of buying it! Plenty of different designs out there, I just made what seemed that would work for me and was easy to make! Thanks

really nice vid mate, lots of enjoyable details. like that clamp for holding to the lathe bed, very neat. how do you think the home-made wheels will hold out? weren't you tempted to buy some rollerblade wheels?

Thanks man. I hope in future I will replace the wooden wheels. But I wanted to come up with a quick and easy solution with minimum things needed. After all, this is not an everyday tool for me. So I hope I will get away with it for quite some time!
