+one adVANture at a time our maine (pun) goal was to see some fall color. I’ve (Carrie) have never been to the east coast. Dave was stationed in South Portland Maine MANY years ago and wanted to show me the area. Once we got the fall color we were on a time crunch to get to Florida for the tiny house convention so I feel like we didn’t get enough time.

French doors! I never would have found that screen. Thank you so much! I'm at the ventilation planning stage in my own build, so windows, screens, and a Maxxair have been on my mind. I know you guys are loving that back screen. It turns the rear of the van into a picture window/patio/lounger setup!

+cesalt We would go with Maxxair fans instead of fantastic if we could redo. Good choice!! 😀 Yea the bed room has the best window in the house now😂 You might consider a small screened window in the back of your van near your head. We wish we had one there and may still put on in.😎

THANK YOU! THIS SCREEN WILL BE A GAME CHANGER. By the way - you are soooooooooo right about velcro NOT sticking to anything you really need it to stick too. I have been using 1/4" 3M 3000 double sided tape that has worked very well. However, the 3m tape that you are using looks as though it might be better (wider). Thanks again. I am so glad to have found your channel.

Great idea! I love it! My one possible suggestion to improve upon it might be to hem the bottom and use either magnets or velcro to adhere it to the bottom of your van. If the material isn't flexible enough to hem, maybe using a glue gun to adhere the original hem in alignment with the bottom of your van. Thank you for sharing!

I did it! Custom fit the screen (which took awhile since the double van doors are definitely not square and much smaller than the rear doors of your rig. I had to cut them down from both the sides and the bottom. I am so grateful though that I saw your video. DIY starting from scratch would have been much, much harder! The magnetic closures work great! The only problem I have is that the velcro does not stick to the cloth upholstery fabric on the right side of the doors. It sticks really well to the rigid composite material on the left side of the door. For now - I'm leaving the screens up (it's so easy to go through them, coming in or going out) that I'll have time to figure out a way to secure the velcro better for occasional removal. I know you mentioned snaps that screw in - can you tell me where I can get them? I've looked at some on a marine supply website -too confusing, most were stick on! Thanks.

Nice job Barbara! We are just now putting our rear screen back up and could not live without it once it gets warm and the bugs come out. Type in “screw-in snap kit” on Amazon and there is a bunch of different types to choose from. We just got our kit and have not tried it yet. 😀

You could use 3M tape lol. I would def do it with the Fiberglass mesh as strong enough to sew it. I would use fishing line as thread so you can peel it off without risk of breaking stitches so you can pull it off so if you need to get to window you can.

Hey guys! We are to the ventilation step in our van...it has almost been a year since you installed this bug screen. Great instruction, by the way :) Are you still successfully keeping bugs out? Is there something you have done different to make it better since the video was put up? It looks perfect the way it is, but sometimes after using a product for a while things pop in your head that you wish you had done different or just added little touches to improve the product in your personal use. Thanks for sharing :)

Great question! We are still using the bug screen and it's still effective. That said, we should have made it shorter and just go down to the bed frame. It's been a bit of a hassle getting to the area below our bed. We are going to cut it and and more velcro so we can make that adjustment. I am very impressed by how it's been holding up just make sure you don't close it on the door latch😜

I have had the Velcro on our windows for two years with no problems from extreme heat (100degrees F) & cold (-6 degrees F) the only thing I can’t vouch for is humidity. Warning.... once the acrylic tape sticks it is extremely difficult to remove.... so think about your placement. Also it does not like to stick to weather sealing around the doors.

+freedom dove my Velcro already had adhesive on it 😃 I did just put the 3M tape on After peeling the back. So the double sided 3M tape will have a backing to peel and so will the Velcro. did you need to add any trim at the bottom where you cut it off?
@oneadVANtureatatime3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary Beth. We just updated our back bug screen. It only goes down to our bed now. Carrie cut the screen and sewed a strip of Velcro to the area she cut. So no trip was needed because the velcro takes the job of the trim. I hope that helps. Right now we are enjoying a bug free summer breeze in our van. 😎

Do you need to add velcro at the bottom of the screen so that bugs can't get in that way?
@oneadVANtureatatime3 жыл бұрын
+Ann Ryan you can! we didn’t and it was fine. We are just about to revamp our big screen. It works really well but we found that it was a pain to access anything in the garage under the bed. We also kept shutting it in the door and eventually put a hole in it...... so maybe Velcro at the bottom would have solved this. No bugs can access the van from under the bed so we are cutting our screen so it only goes halfway down. I did want to add that we have had no problems with any of the Velcro coming off. Feel free to ask any additional questions if you have any😃

@@oneadVANtureatatime That's good info. I hope to install both the back and side screens today, so I will definitely secure the back one at the bottom because there's an open space under my bed that would allow the bugs in. Thank you so much for your quick reply! I really enjoy your tutorials!!! Happy trails to you!

Will the tape ruin the rubber around my almost new Toyota sienna
@oneadVANtureatatime3 жыл бұрын
+Joanne Goodman yes.... you will not be able to get the double-sided acrylic tape off! But if you do apply it and Velcro I’m sure you can find many uses for the Velcro. I hope this helps! I feel your pain.... this Is a hard decision! You might also look into snaps. Also permanent but a bit less sightly!

Thank you! I was thinking of doing a update video now that we have had it almost a year. I would not suggest going all the way to the floor..... it’s a pain to get in the garage. We are also taking the curtains down because it keeps pushing the screen into the door and we have shut the screen in the door a few times . That’s for watching and commenting

Did you put a screen on the side door? If so what did you use?
@oneadVANtureatatime4 жыл бұрын
I did put a screen on the side door. I sewed it to custom fit and it was a major pain in the arse!!!! It took me about 16 hours to sew 🧵. Sorry, I am no help in this area. The verdict is still out if the one I made is going to work over time.

Can you leave the screen in place when you close the doors?
@oneadVANtureatatime5 жыл бұрын
Yes! Just make sure it does not get caught up in latch or it will eventually tear. Hopefully that helps.😀

@@oneadVANtureatatime I saw this video just in time to repair our malfunctioning screens before or trip next week. We used and loved bug screens them last summer, but the tape that came with the screens eventually fell off the van (Promaster). I was wondering how to make it stick better, and the 3M tape I ordered through your link just arrived today. I can't wait to put it on. I'm going to wipe down the metal with alcohol before applying the tape, just to be sure. Also, thanks for the idea of applying INSIDE the door trim. I had put ours outside (but still inside the door frames) and had to remove screens to close the doors.

Have you installed one on the slider door yet?
@oneadVANtureatatime4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. Two months ago Carrie made a bug screen with zippers and magnets for the slider. Unfortunately, we did not make a video on how we made it due to time restraints. Right now we are using it and love it. We have the back doors open and the slider, a light breeze is pulling through the van and many mosquitos are trying to get in but are failing! 😂 It would have been handy to have this set up before we started this journey. If you have any questions please ask. I will ask Carrie to answer any questions on her big screen.

I wonder if that would be strong enough to keep my cats from getting out?
