Thanks for the video. I find it easier to serge or fold the sleeve hem up before sewing the side seam. Then, I just have to fold it under (again, if I’m doing a double fold and not serging) and topstitch it down. Anytime I can avoid overlocking in a round I do it 🤓

Thank you so much for this tutorial! You gave such wonderful tips on the type of needles and thread to sew knit fabric! I will have to try this as it doesn't look as hard as I thought it would be. Aww thank you so much for your comment! I'm glad you found my tutorial helpful! There are a few methods you can try serging without a serger such as using an overlock foot or using zigzag/other stitches to tidy the edges even without an overlock foot! Let me know if you have a specific video tutorial you would want to see and I will try to make one for you!☺️❤

Can you explain the use of stretchy thread for the bobbin compared to standard polyester thread, please. Why?
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 3 жыл бұрын
As it has more flexibility, the thread doesn't break while sewing and stretching out the fabric. Also, it helps reduce tension issues while sewing.

I have a couple questions and a request. I am trying (second time) to make a large roomie sweatshirt for my daughter to be cozy as she studies at school. I'd like to use a stretchy SHERPA Fleece on the outside with a soft light liner fleece inside. 1) Is there a 'best practice' for cutting out these dissimilar materials so they end up the same sizes? I seem to have difficulty with the pieces lining up (being same size) with each other as I assemble them. 2) Should I sew both material pieces of the pattern together before I start Construction at the shoulder seams? 3) Would you make any changes to your assembly techniques if you were working with two fabrics (Primary and liner).? Request: Would you consider making a video showing just this project - making a sweatshirt with a liner material?
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 3 жыл бұрын
Your questions are hard to answer as the thickness and fluffiness of each fabric matters. But let me answer for you to have an idea! 1) In most cases, lining needs to be slightly smaller than your garment, so we add approximately 1/8” to your seam allowance when sewing. For the hem, try to adjust the hem lining to be 1/2" shorter and the hem stitch naturally will lay slightly inside.
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 3 жыл бұрын
2,3) In that case, you will end up having difficulty to make clean seams as you're using heavy fabrics. Sew outer pieces and lining pieces separately and assemble them with the sleeve band and neck band, which is the easiest way IMHO.
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 3 жыл бұрын
For now, I don't have a plan for that! But I always change plans whenever I come across great new patterns! 😊

@@SewingTherapy Your advice: "For the hem, try to adjust the hem lining to be 1/2" shorter and the hem stitch naturally will lay slightly inside." Not sure I understand this, will the shorter lining hem still be closed up by the hem stitch you describe? Or are you suggesting the two layers aren't attached -

Thanks for your videos. Have a quick question. I noticed you were using a thread cone with your Singer 9960 and was curious how you’re running the thread on top of the machine. I have same machine and was considering using thread cones because of cost savings but was wondering how to run the thread. Thanks.
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 3 жыл бұрын
Just same as the spool of thread. You just will need a right size of container which gives the thread some space to roll. (Not too big) And you thread the same way! It would work perfectly!

Hi. Love this tutorial. May I know what is the serger setting you are using for this fabric? Thank you
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't adjust any setting from my usual setting which is 4-4-4-4. I can't say it will work for your projects as the tension setting always depends on the fabrics you use. Try to change the feed dial setting to lower number before you change the tension setting in case you're having ugly stitches on your stretch fabric. 🤞

The thing is you are not stretching enough (the waist band, as you sew it,) so what you can do it make a mark in middle of band and then make marks in the middle of two halves of band (which where previously created by your first mark) now you have 5 points on your band, Please Do same with you hem of shirt, one middle mark and then two more marks in the two halves created by first middle point/mark. Now you must pin all 5 marks (the ends and 3 ponits that you just marked on your hem and band) By doing that you would have to strech it evenly all across And make sure while you are stitching your points/marks corresponds to each other (ie: the marks on your hem should meet your band nither early nor late, just on exact time) After sewing overlock the excess fabric and here you are done ❤️

When sewing sweatshirts, we use ribbing for the neckline and sleeve hems as the areas need more flexibility and durability! But you can also use the main fabric. It's up to your preference. 🙂
