I do a lot of repairs on my own equipment, both electronic and mechanical devises, and I watch a lot of utube videos when I need a little direction. THIS video, is a perfect example of how these kinds of videos should be done ! EXCellent editing, that speeds the video along when there is no reason to watch a simple part of the process at hand, that we don't need to see ! EXCellent use of the camera, with perfect focus, proper angles, and proper distance from objects !! And donyboy73, your use of the English language is also, excellent. You speak clearly and concisely, without stumbling over words, ever, so that we viewers can always understand exactly, what it is that you are explaining. I vote that donyboy73 does all videos in all areas covered by utube, forever. Thanks for the fine work.

Always a good practice to get all the nuts, bolts, screws, started on covers, manifolds, and anything that has more than one fastener, started first. Seems like there is always a little adjusting to get parts to seat properly before doing the final tightening.

Looks like another Techumseh motor that wont run properly without the choke being on! Lol I keep having this problem with my yardworks machine with 8.5hp Techumseh. I just pulled the carb apart today and cleaned it really well, after reinstalling it, it seems to run with the throttle all the way up, when you pull the throttle back down it doesn't really reduce the engine speed. Il have to look closely at the throttle plate shaft tomorrow in the daylight. I did remove the playe amd shaft to clean everything well. I wonder if the plate went on a hair different then its original position? Cause the higher idle speed. I turned the idle screw back out but it wont reduce the idle speed. Always enjoy your vids!

It's best to add a felt washer on top of a damaged or worn shaft after adding the spring. A few drops of oil on the felt seals any air leaks between the shaft and the shaft hole you created by sanding and filing the shaft. If you do not do this, you will create a rich condition on the carburetor and will find the blower still doesn't run correctly. I have fixed many snow blowers with worn shafts with the felt washer trick.

A friend's snow blower stopped hard (bang) and would not turn over with the recoil. Looking at it i could not see anything until I removed the starter. There is a small crack in the block that I am sure was caused by a broken con rod. Before I tear into this is it possible to fix this small crack with some high temp epoxy. I have rebuilt small engines before but have never had this issue. The motor ran great right up until it didn't.

Hello, Donny. Im replacing the carburator. On lawnmower this one has a plate on top. Turtle for slow/ Rabbit for fast. There 2 screw's . how do i adjust them to right turn's.? I can't control the speed. It run at the same RPM. Thank's/ and Hello to Canada. From Calif.
@berardia410 жыл бұрын
If the throttle plate mark is not in the correct position the engine may run lean. I had a hard time identifying this problem but the previous owner must have messed up the plate position along with the idea screw. Also the alignment for 8 HP engines and up is as you show but for 5 HP it is @ 12:00 position

Hi dony, the idle on my Tecumseh hmsk80 has a tendancy to swing up and down by a few hundred RPMs. Noticed the throttle shaft has some play in it. I haven't had a chance to take apart to see if the shaft or the hole in the carb body is worn. Just curious, based on your experience, does the shaft typically wear or does the hole in the carb body typically wear?

donyboy73 Don, a quick story and question. I had a 8hp Tecumseh 26" CTC snow blower, one cold day I started it and the governor was frozen. I quickly shut it off, freed the governor, but before I got the driveway done the connecting rod blew. I replaced the rod, but then (immediately) it started do burn more oil than gas, to the point where I would have to stop the machine and clean the plug every 2nd cut. I put new rings on the engine, but made no difference, it still burned as much oil. I was told that the cylinder had worn off round, I had a second engine with the rod blown, so I put this piston with new rings and rod in it, and now it is burning oil too. I took measurements with a caliper and everything looks (on specs), Got any ideas????
@donyboy7310 жыл бұрын
W. Gator sounds like the engines are done
@wbgator110 жыл бұрын
donyboy73 Yel, you are right, but I am going to try a different piston and rings in it 1st cause there is no scoring on the cylinder walls and inside it all looks like new. I will let you know what happens. I was just wondering if you came across a similar problem. See, what I don't understand is that before she blew the rod she didn't burn ANY oil at all...... neither of them. Have a good holiday wknd.

donyboy73 I m desperate. I have 2 more 10 hp TEC engines. #1 it sputters and bangs when at full throttle and when I try to reduce the throttle speed it shuts off. I have put 3 different carbs on it and the last one was brand new. (not a rebuild). It still acts like I have carb troubles. Changed the plug, checked out all the wiring for grounds. I am desperate. #2 It works Ok at full throttle, but bring it back to idle and when you open it up to full throttle again it blows out black smoke for about 30 seconds or so until it clears. I have put the same 3 carbs on it , and it is all the same. Put those carbs on other engines I have and they work OK. I have worked days on this. Can you help. Wallace One guy asked your age, my guess is you were born in 1973.

What is the # for the replacement spring on the shaft? I have a similar carb on an MTD lawn tractor and I could not figure out why the unit was not idling correctly until I removed the carb and noticed that the part of the spring that would slip over the top of the throttle shaft plate had broken off. I am going to just form another hook on the end for the time being but if the force on the throttle plate is no longer within specs, I will need to get another spring. Thanks.
