Very nice. I've made a few blades out of these blades myself. The companies that make these blades have perfected the heat treat temper and type of steel used to make the blades. As long as you keep your temps low will grinding there is never a need to heat treat them yourself.

I like the fact that he constructs this hatchet using simple tools and equipment that can be purchased at the local hardware store without spending mega $$$. The hatchet turned out nice - Good work. Any nascent knife maker should be inspired.

I like the design! The brass liners create a nice contrast with the wood and steel. The steel looks a little too thin for outdoor use but as long as the user is aware of the limits it should be fine. Great job on the edit as well! Cheers

thank u bro. i have my grandfather's old hand hatched from WW2. the wood on the handle is old and cracked. its that good steel that holds a edge all the way down to the handle. GREAT VID!!!

I really like the brass liners. Didn't know how that was going to look, but very nice. Also, nice job not overly rounding the handle. Nicely square and nicely relieved edges. Will make it index well in the hand. Nice job!

nice axe , but what about hardness ? that hardening tempreature look too cold... and dont chase that tempering color so quickly , let it go slow , or put it in oven

Michal Vondráček , Agree it was too cold, And if he had potasium ciyanide powder to plung the hot blade instead of dipping in oil, that would be nicer. (Use a fan to blow away the fume).

Beautiful design! I subscribed because of this video. :) But I have to say it pains me to see that brass cut up so inefficiently. I can't even find brass like that around here, so the thought of not using every bit of it effectively is hard to take.

Jon Miller it was hard for me to to get brass but i kept searching it at my local departement store (in the netherlands) and i found it at it only costed 3.70 euro. thats like 4.5 dollar or something like that

Топорик у меня красивый и крепкий есть - 55 лет, - сувенир из Советской гуцульщины некогда привезли. Родная ручка, как новый. Пользовался им в городской квартире редко, да и плахи удобной нет... Лет пять назад, по потребности, переточил, уменьшил углы спусков, чтоб топорок был и по дереву - легко и красиво строгал... Пробовал рубануть по гвоздю 200 мм. Подрубил на 40%, гвоздь вязкий оказался, но... на острие топора появилась небольшая примятинка. Сталь хорошая, аккурат топорная. Мне такой по качеству нож нужен. Типа нож-босс, чтоб мог запросто шинкануть качан капусты 5 килограммовый, свёклу, и чикануть (не надо как секира, а с трёх не сильных хеков) любую говяжью, свиную кость. Японские кухонники - дорогие и совсем не то, что требуется. Для кухни есть два бюджетных ножа - 28 и 35 см с ручкой. Сталь нержавеющая, с твердостью до 50 ед. Легко правятся и точатся. Я такие люблю. Но требуется и крепкий нож--секачок.

Here's the problem,... the metal is what 1/6 of an inch? you should have made the handle from top to bottom and then you might have done something. But you did a great job.

Great work man, it looks beautiful! I'm currently working on project to create a karambit with that exact kind of cutting disc you used, but just a smaller size. The heating treatment gives the edge more strenght? Cause I was just looking to find if the blade i'm making will need it too.

Hey idea for you, two Ulu knive's out of a saw blade. That can slip together snuggly and securely down into a composit curved axe handle. That then can be used to chop thing's with? SHTF tool's! I got's to hook grandma up with one! Nice work man! 😵😲😂

Beautiful work Assan. I notice this is a diamond tile blade. May I ask what type drill would go thru this with no heat treating, being it is hardened steel? I just made my first knife from a file and no heat treating. Actually I have cedar scales on it already, waiting to drill my three pin holes. Any suggestions would be great!
