You aren’t here to be anyone’s verbal punching bag. People who are downright rude and offensive whist hiding behind a keyboard are cowards and being ignored is the least that trolls should expect. There are plenty of us that appreciate your generosity in sharing your work without wasting time on ignorant kb warriors.

What jerks & haters can’t stand most of all is being completely ignored. So I’m thrilled to hear someone on KZbin finally say, I’m not gonna spend one second of my time on you. Far too many people, in my humble opinion, give them too much air play & allow them to take up to much space in their head. Bravo Marie!

Dude, Marie, Gawd! i respect you SO FRICKIN MUCH! You have been my constant companion on this journey of learning..after studying herbal medicine for 20+ yrs, i decided to dive head-first into cosmetics (to protect myself & my family & friends from the certain death all the horrible corporations were busily plotting..because of course they want to kill off their clientele, right?).. i feel so much like you have helped me to understand that they're really not trying to kill me, & that i've been learning these things right along with you..which i am SO grateful for! By having a better understanding of formulating, & being able to decode an INCI, i now see the purpose of a lot of those evil chemicals! As if one can ever get away from chemicals, we're made of them for frick's sake! i just so deeply admire your personal growth into the young, but extremely saavy & wise formulator you've become. And i'm so proud of you becoming independent & making your own niche & then, planting your flag to say: this is my work! I was born to do this! I'm really talented at this & passionate about it & this is what I want to be! It inspires so many people to see you slaying dragons! And you are using your platform in the most thoughtfully accountable way i've ever witnessed & as a result, you're truly educating people who without you, might be lead down some horrific pinterest-make- your-own- unpreserved-mascara from dirty gutter water! or formulate-sunscreen-from-eggshells-&-aloe-gel! Or hell, formulate sunscreen! At home! Yourself! Then slather it on your babies & go into the mohave! With no hat! You know what i mean..just: Thank you! For your curiosity, & open-mindedness, & being willing to do the valuable work of real research & then having the courage of your convictions, enough to take a whole lotta shit from a lot of probably well-meaning, but completely ignorant critics, who really believe that natural, whatever that means, trumps good sense..thank you for not investing so much into the idea of Marie being crunchy, that you disregarded the truth when you encountered it..& THANK YOU for your blog post & comments here regarding the skindeep database!!!!! Muchlove, suki

I absolutely loved this and totally agree on every level. What bothers me is people/companies who claim their products are all “natural” or “organic” when they are far from it. I cringe when I see a friend say they bought organic shampoo at the grocery store and I show them it’s not and they freak out. I explain to them that’s it’s ok to use these products and they probably are better for us than others but they aren’t 100% organic.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
Yes! The term "natural" drives me bonkers more and more every day-it has so many different meanings to different people and is often used as shortcut to decide if something is safe without knowing much of anything about what is actually in the product. Bonkers, I tell you! 😝

I’ve been reading your blog and watching your videos for a few days, and you definitely already saved me from making huuge mistakes (e.g. that thing about vitamin E or rosemary not being actual preservatives). There’re so much misinformation about diy cosmetics, and for a beginner it’s often hard to tell what’s what, and I love that you encourage thorough research. Thanks a lot🌱🌱🌱

I've gone all natural which has helped my skin immensely since my skin got itchy and dry from long term steroid use that I'm still on. I have found that I don't need to lather up to get clean. I also make my own balms, serums and lip balms, so I know what goes into them. My sister also uses my products and she's always getting comments on how lovely her skin is. We are both in our 60s. I also make my own macerated oils using dried botanicals and carrier oils. Apart from my 95 proof grape alcohol which I use to extract all the goodness from my botanicals there is no water in any of my formulations. I do use vitamin e and skin appropriate essential oils and absolutes. Thanks so much for your informative videos I really enjoy them.

So much of your DIY journey resonated with me! I am at a point where I am still buying all my water based things (toners, eye cream, facial sunscreen) because working with preservatives scares me (definitely would not want to screw it up) and, as you said, water is super great for your skin! There is no shame in being a DIYer who does not DIY everything.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate how hard you work to make things and give us your recipes... For free! The generosity is overwhelming and I can't express how that makes me feel, when others guard their recipes so closely that you can't even get a hint of which essential oils have been used (not that I've asked for a secret recipe because I totally get guarding one's business), But, once upon a time, I had a reaction to a producer and the maker insisted that it couldn't possibly have caused it. Anyway, the essential oils were listed as "fragrance or essential oil blend". I wasn't asking for the specific formula or whatever, just which oils were used... Anyway, I ended up with a really expensive product I couldn't use and no way of knowing what specifically caused the issue. Ah well, they lost a customer and I really miss the product.

Soooo glad you mentioned that about the EWG database. It's just unfortunate that they are the first website to pop up when googling the safety of a product and I honestly think that is the reason why so many people have such a misconception of natural always being safe while all synthetics are evil. It's just easier to read the first website that google throws at you rather than doing indepth research.

Hi, I have found an incredible sunscreen lotion for the face that I absolutely love! It's by Australian Gold. It's a botanical sunscreen for the face and it's slightly tinted and has a broad spectrum of 50. It's a non-greasy mineral lotion and it just glides over the skin and it makes a great base lotion before putting on your makeup. I got it from Amazon.

So I’m just a beginner in this field and afraid to possibly make someone sick because I included water in my product. Please help me with this dilemma. Did I miss something and I realize this video here is now 5 years old so maybe that has something to do with it? I highly regard your videos!❤

I'm worried my comment won't get seen and responded to since this is a 4 year old video, but I might as well try. You mentioned a FB group and said you'd link to it, but I don't see a link for that in the description. Am i missing it? Did you forget it? Did it need to be removed? I really like doing things as naturally as possible, but I'm also convinced that I can learn from anyone and I am not great at being perfectly crunchy in other areas so I figure I'll just keep learning and stay humble and figure it out. If your info isn't as valuable to me down the road, then that's fine. I appreciate it now.

I was wondering what scale to order at Lotion Crafter to weigh essential oils, the little black one shown here? I use the “ Smart Weigh Pro Pocket Scale you recommended a few years ago but I am not sure it is the right one to weigh essential oils in such a small quantity. I love your blog and videos! You are such a wonderful teacher! Thank you for sharing! I make almost every recipe you post.

The wee little Smart Weigh one is still great, I just appreciate the extra 100g maximum weight on this one (the Jennings JSR-200). It's much more expensive (~$70) than the SW one as well.

I bought dried rose petals to make rosewater. I planned on adding germall plus. Do you think that would be hard to preserve? Should I just stick to hydrosols?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 4 жыл бұрын
I find hydrosols perform a lot better than making what is more or less an herbal tea with the botanical-they have a much more potent, lovely smell + don't discolour the product. Happy making!

I have questions about plant matter like shavegrass, slippery elm, colloidal oats, and the like. 1.) Can it still be added to anhydrous, oil-based products with a bacterial rave happening? 2.)Are any of them OK to add to homemade conditioners without causing bacteria to break out the tiny glowsticks and start partying? Thanks! And thanks for all that you do. You're amazing, smart, kind, funny, and kind of adorable. Since I read your book and finally started adding e-wax NF to my anhydrous products, the things I've made have been a million times better.

Hey Sarah! If something is 100% anhydrous you are good to go-I'll take advantage of this with projects like this one (www.humblebeeandme.com/oatmeal-milk-after-shower-oil/), where you can add water at the moment of use so you can still have water + hard to preserve things. If you want to add botanical powers to things with water I recommend getting a cosmetic grade botanical extract. You can buy both liquid and powdered versions-liquids are WAY easier to work with! I hope that helps :)

You are amazing, I hate the "natural talibans" (hope I spelled it correctly) who criticize every single recipe containing some non-natural ingredient. I have learned so much from your videos and blog. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! That said, I'm trying to formulate a whipped body butter that doesn't melt at temperatures of 28/30°C. I have tried many variations, but the ones that are perfect at lower temperatures melt above 28, the ones that stay a little bit firmier are too hard under 23/24°C. Do you have any input to help me?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I tend to agree-let's worry about safety and not "natural-ness" :) I think you may have to turn to an emulsion for your body butter; everything has a melting point, and I'm not convinced it is possible to make the melting point as broad as you want it to be.

Just a quick heads-up. Petrolatum-based products are safe for skin, but do be careful around flames. These products, while not flammable, per se, *are* fire hazards.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
It's always good to be careful-all oils are flammable to some degree, and we make lovely candles out of beeswax because it's nice and flammable, too. I wouldn't recommend soaking fabric in any kind of oil and getting to close to an open flame-or standing too close to open flames in general!

Thank you for the work you do. I really like the facial lotions with the hyaluronic acid. They are the best. What are your thoughts about adding more caffeine in your Frankincense lotion? As it can help reduce puffiness, would it do any good to add more? Safety?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Roger! Ingredients to Die for lists the usage rates for caffeine at 0.1 to 0.5% for skin care and 0.5 to 1.0% for body care. I would probably stick to an upper limit of 1% :)
