DIY Tortoise Enclosure Build & Set Up

In this video, I rebuild and give a complete makeover to Coconut's enclosure. I just felt like he didn't have enough dirt to dig into and less space than Kiwi. Also, the glass walls just didn't work for me. I love how it looks right now and Coconut loves exploring it too!

thank you so much for helping me to make my tortoise life sooo much better. i mean, he used to live in a glass terrarium with no other infrastructure. i had no idea about how wrong and frustrating it was for him, because even his vet told that's fine... now i set up a new home without glass, with good air circulation and full of dirt. he has a little pool to chill as well. thank you! funny that his life became better after russia fully invaded my country. at least someone is happier. greetings from Ukraine!

Not necessarily a heat lamp but a heat source depending on the weather. And yes, in the summer it's usually off unless we have cold nights :)

What kind of dirt do you use? How did you waterproof it what was the plastic you put in there?

I use Organic top soil and I used a plastic sheet with a sticky side on the bottom and finished off the edges with duct tape, this way it's waterproof. :)

I place a plastic mat that sticks to wood, this way it doesn't rot the wood.

Excuse me what is the brand of soil you are using and also does it work for desert tortoises?

I'm using organic top soil. The best bedding for your tortoise e a 50/50 mix of organic top soil and play sand. Hope it helps!

Is it best to put the lamp in the hide or in the outside bit I'm getting my tortoise scooter a upgrade home and I want him to be as comfortable as possible Although he isn't a Greek tortoise so I don't know if its the same

The care varies from species to species so you should definitely research for your specific tortoise. As to the lamp placement I think it's up to you. Indoors it makes more sense to keep the lamps on the uncovered part of the cage to avoid overheating but when it's an outdoor enclosure it makes more sense to place your lamps inside the hide. Tortoise do not need water. The lettuce has water already so it can drink and eat out of the lettuce I have a tortoise I did put water for it it was drinking out of it but not most of it I did stop putting some but I will continue in a few months

Tortoises should always have a shallow dish with water available. Even if they do get water from food like lettuce, it has no other nutritional value to them and can cause diarrhoea. I have a video all about tortoise's diets: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGnUi2B9p8xlpKM Hope this helps!

Tortoise's need regular baths to soak and drink and use a toilet, also shallow dish with water if they are extra thirsty. Lettuce has no nutritional value whatsoever and should only be given rarely, romaine preferably. Pick wild weeds or grow your own for all year around food. Food served on a slate to keep beak short
