Love this video! Thank you. What fusible interfacing do you recommend? I am having trouble finding one that I don't think adds too much bulk.

Thank you for taking the time! I would love to hear your experience with the method if you decide to do anything follow it. Regarding the fusible interfacings, please check my blog post here, I cover the types of interfacing and have links to the products I use myself. Hope it helps! www.magiclittledreams.com/tutorial-turned-edge-applique-with-interfacing

Really such wonderful work, I have to say this makes me much less afraid to try doing applique - this is so much easier than freezer paper and ironing!

Thank You, Dear! That is also the point of me making the videos - to get people excited and less afraid of trying out applique! And sometimes all it takes is an easy method:) So did you jump into the applique waters?

Wow if someone did not understand turned applique before... they will afterwards. Excellent video.

Thank you!! This is not meant to be a comprehensive technique guide, rather a sew along for the particular appliques. But so great to hear that this still gives a strong base to apply the technique for different shapes! Thank You a lot for watching!

Thank You! Great music on your channel! Would you have some of your own music that could fit a sew along like that? :)

Great video! Love your voice and easy to follow instructions. My critique is with your technique. I’m curious why you didn’t trim the bulk from the top branches? With hand appliqué there’s potential for unnecessary bulkiness and an uneven surface that will show wear on solid colors after a couple washings. I’ve not used fusing with my appliqué before, does it reduce or eliminate uneven surface? Is it soft or stiff? Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate that you took the time to watch the video and give feedback! I indeed see the problem with turning a big chunk of fabric under an applique shape. The excess fabric may create markings on the dark solid fabric that washes more than the rest of the applique. Yet, the problem with trimming the seam allowance off for machine applique is that it is very hard to keep all the small fabric edges under the applique shape while sewing. As a result, some threads and raw edges are likely to stick out after stitching. Therefore, in the video I demonstrate, how to fold a large seam allowance in a way that does not create the bulkiness you are addressing. Using this folding method, the seam allowance fabric folds evenly and the edges of the folded fabric matches the edges of the applique shape. Thus, there are no disordered fabric folds that start to show after a couple of washes. I never had a problem with this method, as the tips of the trees will not wash more, than the rest of the applique. Having said that, even a single layer of seam allowance may become visible on darker solid fabrics after extensive washing. This is a general problem for places with seam allowance. Let me know what you think!
