Great vid! Thanks for the super easy mod idea. I was just about to drop $40 on a bullnose. Those clamps are called steel suspension clamps. That may make it easier for folks to find them. Should be easy to find at any Lowes or Home Depot.

You may be able to find a band clamp like those small around the shaft in a large enough size to fit around the motor instead of using the zip tie.

I'll be naking one for my trolling motor, as well as a set for the bow area to keep the canoe going straighter on the path I want it to travel
@waynedavies31852 жыл бұрын
Install a pair of paddle length, straight flat boards, vertically, like they were un-steerable rudders at mid-ships of a canoe, so they sit in the water by a paddle length deep in the water. If the wind catches the bow, the boards will help prevent the bow from swinging on an off-course direction, and keep you paddling in a straighter line much easier. The boards act more, or less like a deep keel, normally located under a boat, but these actually hang on either side of the hull, at around mid-ships. The water creates a fair amount of drag (sideways in either direction), against the boards, to help prevent the bow from going off course, when strong winds catches the bow. They can be installed as part of any outrigger unit, but are snug close to either side of the hull.

That is great! Thanks for sharing ... i am getting that Minn Kota trolling motor and doing this mod. Now suggest me a good trolling motor battery for the money
@bluecollaroutdoors55563 жыл бұрын
The battery I use is a 24 group size Everstart battery from Walmart. It is a deep cycle marine battery and it is only around $75. It usually lasts at least 6 hours of constant trolling without being recharged. Battery - www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-Lead-Acid-Marine-RV-Deep-Cycle-Battery-Group-Size-24DC-12-Volt-690-MCA/180350522 If you go up to the 27 group size it will allow a longer run time.

Using the 24 group size walmart battery gives about 50 amp-hours usage, assuming you don't discharge more than the recommended 50% of the 101 amp hour rating. I'm thinking of going with a lithium battery (Lifepo4) which can be discharged 90% and last about 10 times as long (in charge/discharge cycles). An equivalent lithium battery is considerably smaller and also weighs about 10 lbs vs the 45 lbs for the flooded lead acid battery. The kicker is that an equivalent lithium battery (60 amp hours or so) will cost about $200 up front. The lithium battery will excel in all aspects but cost. Just food for thought...

@@baronistheone where do you find the 60 amp hour lithium battery for $200 ?

Do you do this on a front or rear mounted trolling motor?
@bluecollaroutdoors55563 жыл бұрын
The rudder is great for both setups, essentially it helps create more surface area on the motor to allow it to steer better. Without the rudder it doesn’t steer and respond as quick.

Did you get the nuts and bolts separately?
@bluecollaroutdoors55563 жыл бұрын
I bought them together from lowes in the hardware section. It really doesn’t matter what size bolt necessarily the main thing is to get the type that has the synthetic lock nut that way it doesn’t loosen up easily over time. I hope this helps man.

What are the dimensions of the board?

It’s probably about 10 in tall and 5 in wide. This is slightly bigger than the ones you can buy from a retailer.

@@bluecollaroutdoors5556 thanks I’m in Canada though, we don’t have that store. I improvised though and just used all zip ties. It actually works really good. Will do until I can find those damn rare cushion clamps haha. Thanks for the video it saved me a lot of money 👍
