Nice, simple to follow. I really like your reusing a simple adapter that not many people would think of. Lots of folks are pulling apart pc power supplies and you’ve shown you really don’t need to. Great video, thx.

I was doing that as a teenager, LONG ago! In HS we'd get a car stereo, build a wooden box to put it in, cut two holes in it, install what we called door speakers and power it with a motorcycle, or two 6v lantern batteries, these were our boom boxes! The Japanese got wind of it and by the late 70's, early 80's, we saw boom boxes with UNBELIEVABLE features! Actually, no disrespect, but you're LATE with this!😂

Also take note about the Amps of the 12v power supply, if that headunit is producing about 200w on 4 channel then probably you should have a 20A 12v power supply.
@ElectronicsForFun2 жыл бұрын
I have used 5a power supplies with no problem. No overload doesn't even pull a full 5 amps. Cars stereos list all of these outrageous power numbers but they're bullshit. Realistically you get around 15w per channel if that. Sony makes a few stereos with beefcake amps in them but they're the exception not the rule.
@bryanleiporsado68452 жыл бұрын
@@ElectronicsForFun maybe that's why, but my pioneer ones doesn't like the 12v 5a power brick (cutting the power off), but works wonderfully on my 14.4v 30a power supply. (Too overkill lol). I also have a local cheap head unit (bought it for about 8 usd brand new), I can crank it up 100% with the 5a power supply. So maybe it's likely producing less than 50w on 4 channels.
@ElectronicsForFun2 жыл бұрын
@@bryanleiporsado6845 yeah a good car stereo will draw some power, your average Walmart or Amazon car stereo is going to be a pooch.

Not sure why its "rocket science" hooking up a car stereo when its not in your car, its way easier when your car isn't in the way. Just note that it works off 12 volt, like your computer you might be watching this on! Thank you for the video, good work and thank you for your time mister.

Want to test the quality of sound before I install radio in the car. Have been through 2 so far for my niece and don't like the sound. Want a radio that has some bass without needing an amp and sub. 3rd radio is on the way so I wanted to test it in the house before installing. Thanks for the tips. I don't trash too much stuff either. Comes in handy when the wheels in your head start rollin! Thanks again.

Hi! Thanks for a great video it was really easy to follow and repeat which made it possible for me to set up my own car stereo at home. I’m very glad from the results but I have one question regarding the safety of the set up. I want to know if it is safe to connect at home? Can this set up cause any sort of hazard? (Like a fire for example) or will the fuse (located at the back of the radio) blow in case anything happens? Thanks again for the video
