Kinda cool seeing the cerwin vega on the test bench. I remember being a teen when they came out. I’ve got the bigger version of that amp with IA80.1 and have to say that out of all the bass amps I’ve had I like it the best. I’ve got enough stuff in shed to run 500 watts rms but kinda easy just to buy one electrical system for my truck and for home or shed every day listening......the simple plug in a home radio hit power button and have music can’t be beat. Good vid and something like this works great for troubleshooting if you have problems with your car system. Or almost a must if you have friends that are new to car audio and having trouble. You can take amp, sub, radio or anything out of the car and hook up knowing your just getting power and test whatever needed and bypass any problems that could be in the car.

Why would you do this ? When you can just buy a vintage receiver with 2 Ohms - 8 ohms impedance. 600W or 800W for 30$ off eBay or Craiglist. Look for Nakamichi or Harman Kardon. Those will rock the fuck out !! They will come a bit pricier at 60-100$. But that “intellySupply” alone costs 300$ so is cheaper anyways. Hook up your car subs and speakers as regular home speakers and have a much cheaper cleaner set up.

I had a question....so I have a large RV that I did a whole custom theater with surround sound. Since the RV also has 12v battery's can I incorporate this into my theater/stereo. .... Does that make sense....basically I want to add some insane pro audio mid bass drivers and need a strong cheaper amp to push them....thank you

This is a wealth of information. But personally I would keep it simple and just mimick a car audio system with just the battery for power (charging it when needed) along with amp and quality speakers with subs and keep it compact and neat. Having car subs for movies in the house is so awesome, it fills the room like hearing thunder, I get hyped just thinking about it.

I use a PC power supply to run a 4 channel amp for a 2.1 setup I've got. The power supply holds its voltage very well, which is awesome for dynamics/transients. It also has multiple voltages out so can be used as a lab supply. I'd say the method mentioned in this video is best though, as nothing really goes wrong if the system is overloaded, the charger won't be over-driven, and the battery's voltage will just decrease. Regarding caps though, for movies/home theatre caps should be fine, rumbles don't last too long, though for music you'd probably want a battery, or even both.

If you have a small amp say under 200 watts total you can use a Xbox power supply. If I remember it's output is 12.5 volts up to 17amps. You can get them online for like 20 bucks. I use one in my garage for the stereo out there works good for low wattage setups.

I been doing this since 2006, started off with using PC PSU's. Now, I'm powering my setup with a Kinetik KIPS 12-80 power supply. (80Amps) It does the trick... But, I will need to expand and add a battery, or as mentioned in this video, a supercap for an upgrade in Audio components.

It was a system in my buddies bedroom 20 years ago consisting of a power inverter an amp and a sub hooked up to an old Sony bedroom boom box that gave me the audio bug . Before that I had never heard a song with bass like that . it would have much cleaner bass power than a bose. Usually anything above 500w charges exorbitant amount of $$$ for sub-power at home. For the cost of a 1000w "home theater sub" you could get 2000W of premium quality car audio components.

I love it when comments show age. I had a Sony car cd player mounted to the headboard of my “waterbed” back in 1994!!! Sheesh 2008! Haha. Yessir it had 4 6x9 4 ways in boxes mounted on the corners and get this….a “RadioShack” “bass tube” which was an 8” powered subwoofer built in a 2ft tube encloser. It pounded. But my back will never forget that waterbed. Worst invention EVER!!

if a car battery puts out just over 12v and alternators supply a charge over that to around 13v give or take normally, couldn't you just run off a pc power supply using a 12v yellow and 3.3v orange wire together? or a dc power brick at around 13v, without the need for battery's and caps??

I have 4 car audio/home setups in my house. I use 30 amp power supplies from Amazon that cost literally $20 shipped. For one of my systems I am using 3 separate 30 amp power supplies. Why only 30 amp power supplies, because $20. I actually prefer the sound of car amplifiers over home theater amplifiers, why? Power, clarity, and ease of use is why I like them. I can change out an amp say on my front stage speakers or my center channel, or the rears... I find it is more fun and stratifying setting up my own sound. I use the optical output from my TV to a DAC that converts to 2 channel analogue (RCA). Perhaps I will one day make a video of my set up and post it on KZbin....

Would it be worth adding around 5 farad worth of caps just to help keep the draw more constant when using a 12v supply to help increase the life of the power supply? I'm not using it for car audio indoors but I do need a 12v DC supply to run a few amps and figured the caps in series would help the power supply last longer and allow the subs and tactile transducers to have a better supply of power when they need it

What is the point of the battery and charger? You could just plug it straight into the Power Supply. You say its to increase power (Watts). But the Amplifier is the one that supplies the power (Watts) to the speaker system, not the Power Chain. Shouldn't it the Power Amp only need 12 volts @ the specified Amps?

It takes power to make power. Amplifiers don't produce power, they merely convert it from DC to AC audio signal. Without a good supply of power an amplifier cannot work to It's full potential. A 1000w amp that is 75% efficient will consume over 1300w. This means a 12v power supply would need to be capable of delivering 111A of current. This is not feasible from a power supply alone unless you have access to a large industrial supply. A charger and battery combo is an effective way to piece together a large power supply.

The other benefit of a battery is time. It can store energy during times of low power demand. Power supplies can't be taxed at a high percentage constantly as the heat will diminish life or overload the supply. Batteries will supplement power and alleviate strain on a power supply while at the same time as acting as a filter to level out and clean power to the amp. Power supplies do not filter AC fully when converting to DC and this can become audible with high powered amplifiers. Batteries certainly help with this.

Hey Ed, I've found that old server power supplies are really good and cheap I can get about 3500W continuous for around $80-$100(which I guess is expensive but when you think about what you're getting its a pretty good cost to power ratio). Yup. Remember to piggy back (bridge) from the batt+ to the remote spot. Or tie a light switch (or any switch) with that bridge and you'll have an on off switch separate from the power supply.

i been using a car battery off a slow trickle charger been working fine and i use a laptop for source, im an installer and just made it for quick tests or stuff i buy have vids on here but not stupid i dont blasting stuff at half ohm due to a) wire size, b) power draw, c) distortion, d) no fusing. like i said just a simple set up cuz i know audio limits and power draw example i use a 4chan and 2 chan for surround sound where im running 4ohm loads on 4 chan and 8ohm on 2 chan, yes i ran stuff at 1ohm but for short bursts nothing longer than a min cuz im either going to sell what im testing or to see if customers amp and subs will play and to see what the power draw will look like in car, i like ur vids im trying to get sum fame but stick to fb where i post the cars i build which r alot of old schools and newer cars, i worked for american bass dude wants me to come back but is really cheap cuz i did 10jobs their by myself shipping, recieving, online orders, customer service, testing, R and D, warehouse, returns, advertizing, and more. got a good rep here for audio been around it 30years since i was 8 years old i thank my older brothers cuz people hit me up for sound problems plus i stuff 3 15s in a 97 delta off a hcca 5k and have 1 of the loudest cars around for daily driver, check out my vids on here and fb same name claude mac

Hi I have 2 xbox power supply bricks at 12 volt by 16 amps. Can I use bothe to give me 12 volts by 32 amps? I have a clarion, kenwood amps. But I was hoping to use my jaycar response amp bridged at 450 watts RMS.? In fast fours and rotary magazine tested at 464 watts RMS? I run my setup off a heavy duty car jumper and I keep an automatic battery charger on it so when the battery drops to a certain level the battery charger kicks on and keeps It charged works perfect i run a 400 wat amp with two high-end 6×9 and a 12 inch subwoofer in bridged mode it shakes the house.

@@irmalindaramirez6569 you don't need the car stereo go to Amazon and Buy a Bluetooth adapter or ebay that will feed the amp on the input then all you need is a car battery a battery charger / tender run your power cables that's it man that exact setup can also be used in a car if you wanted for say an older car that doesn't have bluetooth but you would use the Vehicles battery instead

@@infrasonicrebasses4763 yes, 333amps*12v=4000w~ In this case he would need a 150Amp supply (1800w at 15amps 120v from the Wall Outlet), plus a power reserve (Battery, XSPower D3400~) to tap into the extra reserve power to reach the 4000w. The battery would supply the rest of the 2200w up until the point that it is depleted.

I'm finding that I'm getting a bunch of "local talk radio:" interference when trying to power my amp using switching power supplies, either PC or "brick" type. it's possible it's something else plugged into that circuit, i suppose. I'm still experimenting to figure it out, but running off of a standalone battery is dead silent. I'm definitely interested in that supply/charger you have but I can imagine shelling out $ and then hearing the same conservative talk radio interference and getting quite annoyed. :) I have some APC UPS boxes that need some TLC/repairs that I'm going to try out to see if those isolate anything.

I got bunch of old punch DSM amps I want to bench test. Is it ok to use a car battery but run a small fuse like a 5-10 amp to limit the current just to see if they turn on and work? And also use a radio as well to play music to make sure they have output. I was told to get an adjustable power supply but just wondering if it's ok to just use a battery? Also was told if these old DSM amps have been sitting for years and years just limit the current to like 3-5 amp on power supply but use a 5-10 on a battery.

Can I use a 12v 40A PSU for security cameras into a dc to dc 1200W converter outputting 13.8 volts @ 15A CC to directly power an amp and not damage it? And if so do I need to set the CC to just above what Ohms law says the Amps will be for a given wattage or is running it at 15 ok?

Im just looking to run two 12 inch subs rated at 250 rms a piece off of a alpine 500watt monoblock in my bedroom for video games and movies and what not im only looking to run at most 500 watts but probably less, im thinking ill wire em at 4 or 8 ohms nothing crazy!! Could i skip the battery and just use like you said a 60 amp power supply!!

Thanks for the product demo. That relay box is on my parts list for my next build. Will there be an external control panel for the individual channels like the one used to turn on the amp or can I detach the switches from the unit for a remote style install. Keep up the good work

It is said that the car stereo does not provide many details such as home audio, because it works on 12 volts and 4 ohm speakers. Is this true?

Never heard that one. Doesn't make sense that it would be true. The power supply and speaker impedance don't really have anything to do with the ability to hear details. 12v equipment is designed to operate on 12v. The only thing I can see is that it's more difficult to get proper imaging and staging in the smaller environment of a car vs a house. There are techniques to overcome this, but it's just easier in a house.

its awesome build. i want to use my car amplifier for pc. but i see its not that easy. isnt any simple converter to just simply plug in the wall and connect the other wires to an amp? this simple compatibilty should be already done. the amp just need the power and i see its such a big deal and messy when you build all up, 20k of cables and so on. i imagine just having one power supply and amp, so thats 2 components. nice and clean with strong pc/rgb build on desk. the car amplifier are way more sexier next to pc and also i like the shape. its just different.

I have 3 Xbox 360 power bricks powering a punch 500. The rca's are running through my home stereo receiver pre outs. I do have a hybrid capacitor connected that displays voltage. It rocks the house for sure
