DIY: Tying A Double Lineman's Loop

Video tutorial on how to tie a Double Lineman's Loop. The same procedure to create this loop in found in the Single Lineman's Loop, yet this last half involves creating two loops.

The single is a line man's loop (alpine butterfly) but the double seems to be a different knot to the double line man's loop (double alpine butterfly). On initial inspection it seems to have the same properaties of being able to weight and of the 6 stranda against any other but there is a varation in how the know looks.

I think the double alpine is a very bulky knot, because of the two "wings" on each side. Hard to dress, hard to set. Also, the two loops end up on top of eachother with the double alpine. The double lineman, in contrast, lays flat, loops are splayed (side by side), and it's an elegant knot. It is close in nature to the double bowline (bowline on a bight), because the mechanism that adjusts the loops goes through the collar. You can loosen the top collar, pull on one side or the other and the loops will resize relative to each other. Except that the bowline on a bight, again, has stacked loops instead of splayed. As for the other splayed double-loops (portuguese, french, and spanish), they all have "direct" loop-to-loop adjustment without going through any turns. Even when loaded, the loops can easily resize relative to one-another. This is sometimes a desirable characteristic (eg when the angle of loading will change during the pull). Otherwise, for a more stable splayed double-loop, with more controllable resizing across the loops, I think the double lineman wins the crown.

I think this knot is not so safe. If one of the loop it turn, the other one will fall down - the loops are connected to each other which is not so safe.

Both loops are secure and will not slip under a load. It is used for climbing applications, but can also be used in any scenario needing a pair of loops in the middle of a rope.

Also used in a rescue situation. A single bowline is extremely painful if you are the one being rescued.

Why would I need to learn this when all of a sudden im getting 101 different ways to tie knots and loops tiring 2 lines together quick release ties ... Why do I need this specific double loop.
