DIY Upcycle Bar Stools - Pallet Sandwiches with Rubio Monocoat

Couple of old bar stools being thrown out as the plastic seating had broken. For this upcycle a sandwich of pallets and they've got a new lease of life. A new finish, Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C which has turned out pretty decent.
Theres going to be a couple of pallet sandwiches videos coming, I did a viking chair a few years ago and its still decent but very thick with 3 layers. Two layers also works well and seems a pretty solid way of making up fatter more solid boards for use.
Very simple to make and you can really gobble up the offcuts that are lying around. Try and make sure that each layer is made using the same thickness plank. Wider planks are easier to use and join together.
The Worx Axis jigsaw is a good and tight cordless jigsaw that's a firm favourite in the workshop and I'm finding it to be a first choice in picking up and working with.
Lay your planks out, mark the circle, make the cuts, saws is set to non oscillating but can be changed if the timbers particularly dense or knotty. Take your time, and use sharp blades, if you make too sharp a turn with the jigsaw and smoke the blade out then that blades going to bend and become very inaccurate.
Plenty of glue and then drive some screws strategically around the outside from the bottom up making sure they don't go all the way through. Use an angle grinder and flap disk to knock off any points that do go all the way through and then turn the screw back half an inch when the glues dry so that if the wood shrinks a bit there's no pointy bit coming through.
I then used the trim router with a round over bit to smooth the edge and sanded them off to a 120 grit feeling by hand until it was ready for a finish.
A new finish by Rubio, its a one coat solution, brush on and then wipe back using a sponge. The wood itself being softwood isn't very exciting but the oil did well in bringing it to life and gives a nice pleasant warm tone to them.

hey bongo can you make the smallest viking chair u can thats still useable as a seat like the little folding camp stools love your stuff currently making a big one out of deck board as it was the cheapest wood i could boy hope your doing fantastic.

@@thepoultrypeople finished now creaked a bit at first but I think that was the ridges of the decking boards fibers getting crushed coated me £18 to build used a few buiscets to join followed one of your vids for rough sizes only jigsaw and router and a drill. Lovely scotch and coke sat in the sun watching it set

Bongo, no fair for the gentleman to entice the chicks out with wine, but her legs do look fine sat on the renewed bar stool (just don't eat them). Good you used a proper fastening solution rather than those previous fiddly hex nuts. Part of rescuing something is executing the rescue right. I like that nailly plank for finishing up work.
