I appreciate you so much for the inspiration and tutorial. I built my own GBS video synth after this build. All the bend points work as expected. But I am having difficulties with the output only displaying bends when used with the VGA input on the GBS and the feedback function whenever I switch it on it just gives a video glitch mix of the VGA and RCA input. Do you have any tips to fix this?

So you are processing using the AV to VGA converter, circuit bending and using the GBS-8100 AV out? Or VGA out? Sorry I'm new to video synths, but I love this and would like to build one. Don't really want to deal with an AV to VGA converter, but I don't have any VGA video source...except a computer I guess.

Is there a difference between the grey and the black vga- to composite converters? Do i need the two to use them in pair as a feedback loop? I cant just buy two blacks or two greys? My question is if they transport the signal just one way or if they go both ways. Ebay descriptions give me nothing… Heh.. Thanks!

Great video, thank you! Can you please point me to the labels? I can't seem to find the link. Also, can you confirm it's only necessary to use the pins you labeled as "safe to short"? Or are all 50 pins needed? Keep up the great work!
@LoFiFuture
@LoFiFuture 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You can find them on my website under the GBS8100 Video Synth Tab. You can basically take any selection of the "safe to short" pins you want to create your device. It isn't necessary to use them all and the pinouts provided on my website include some narrowed down pin selections for certain effects.

First off thank you for making this video and sharing your diagrams on this project. I am so close to figuring out this build and I feel like whatever mistake Im making is something basic I've not learned yet since I kinda jumped into this. My video out is giving me colorized static and I'm not sure whats causing it. I dont see any bridged pins on the GBS so I dont think thats it. Trying to get some more info before going back in and de-soldering my work and starting over again!
@YapScience
@YapScience 2 жыл бұрын
This happened to me too and after using a multimeter to check continuity I realized I did indeed have bridged connections :/ Unfortunately the pins are so small that both a solder pump and desolder wic has not work to unbridge the connections. Back to square one…
@kilypayne5981
@kilypayne5981 2 жыл бұрын
@@YapScience @Sam Bianculli those pins can be very frustrating to solder for sure! I ruined a few gbs's before getting it right! One thing I realized is if i am using the feedback mode I have to unplug the video input first or else it will cause the video signal to drop 🤦

Super nice project! Thanx for sharing A question: why banana jacks and not 3.5mm minijacks?
@LoFiFuture
@LoFiFuture 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you and no problem! This is a really good question and im glad you asked it, should have explained in the video. First reason is if buying cheep then cheep 3.5mm jacks are pretty annoying to use + grab onto jacks too hard for quick patching. These cheep 4mm banana jacks however are super smooth and easy to patch. Second reason is kind of a safety feature, with 3.5 mm jacks one may be tempted to plug in external signals. Since the patch points are not buffered (and it would be much more effort to do so) you could easily kill the chip if you fed it an audio signal that exceeds 3.3V (4.6V absolute maximum according to the datasheet) The data sheet also mentions exposure to voltages above 3.3v for prolonged time may effects device reliability so this prevents any mishaps that may occur from haphazardly sending the chip loud VCO signals. Obviously if you have banana jack modular hanging around it would be a risk, All that being said sending the chip all sorts of signals is super fun, but i will be covering how to send the chip external signals safely sometime soon
@francescoscarel
@francescoscarel 3 жыл бұрын
@@LoFiFuture I see! I was indeed tempted to patch the chip with external signals :) but maybe would be nice to try some lxz stuff such as the lfo, they use 0to1 V so they should be safe!

I have a couple of questions First one, the circuit to adapt the external voltage to the chip is for +5 -12v, i have a semi modular synth that sends out +5-5v signals, while it won't harm the chip, would this difference affect the modulation in a significative way? Or worse, may it damage my synth? And, second question Can i use the same circuit (so, 10k resistor + npn transistor) to adapt the voltage and modulate the other pins from an external voltage? (maybe making a small boxed voltage adapter with mini jacks and that circuit inside would be a good idea to use external voltage by pluggin it directly into the patch bay between 2 mini jacks or maybe adding the input and output of the adapter on the top patchbay and the cv input on the side) (i was also thinking about asking if i can modulate the effects by putting a potentiometer between the pins, but i think i'll just test if it works and avoid bothering you anymore) Thank you in advance for your responses Great video by the way, i think i'll probably buy the T420 mk2 in future ;)

@vuibulevbaoultch8727
@vuibulevbaoultch8727 2 жыл бұрын
The white wires are connecting the IC to the empty board and them he use the ribbon cable to connect the empty board to the plugs, using the IC diagram that you can see in the video to make three separate rows that correspond at the IC DATA/COMMAND/ADRESS. The four buttons are connected to nothing and act as temporary switches if plugged using the banana cable. I know that it may be a bit confusing, but I recon that a lot of DIY videos are made in a way that you have enough info to start a project but enough shades to make you fuck-up your projects. Sometime you have to work around difficulties by yourself ^^
