Oh Man!! Ha ha!! I have owned the bus for about 25 years. It’s our adventure camping wagon all summer long!! Series 2A will be for the off road camping fun!! Ha ha!!

I would have liked to see the hinges and how they are mounted. I have never put them on before. work them and show where the screws are.

Thank you for watching. At 3:20 mark in the video I show the hinges being bolted into the rear cargo area. After that you take measurements of your installed hinges and build wood around it by using the general dimensions in the video. Since everyone will put their hinges in different locations. Makes it difficult to give exact directions just general sizes.

excellent. so many vanlifers should be watching this. much better than the other homemade beds. the westy hinges and hardware are available as "sofa bed hinges" at bus depot in US or Just Kampers in UK. Very cheap!

Thank you for sharing this video! I am building my own bed for my split window bus and this is so helpful. How much gap between luggage floor and back support when the bed is down?

Thank you for watching!! The gap is about 1 inches from the back rest to the luggage. It’s a small gap. Once the rear cushion of the bed is laid on top of the luggage area. There is virtually no gap. I always take my rear cushion out so it doesn’t get dirty from carrying stuff or gets wet from the leaking hatch. Ha ha!!

Where did you get the brackets that rest on the Aluminum when the bed is pulled out? The ones where they should have been mounted wider towards the edge?

They are the original Westy L braces. They were used with the original bed. If you look up new Westy bed hinges. They come with new L braces. You might be able order them separately or fab up some yourself. Thank you for watching!

How thick are the bed cushions on the benches? Also is there a technical name for those L- shaped braces under the bench seat? I need a pair, I’m hoping not to have to buy the seat hinges as well.thank you for sharing your work. It’s great!

The “butt” and back cushion is 4 inches thick. The back cargo area is 3.5 inches thick. I have a rubber mat in rear cargo area which makes up for the 1/2 inch difference. You might be able to find a set of L braces on the samba. I would place a wanted ad on the the samba. I’m sure someone has a set laying around.

Will a westy bed mount right into a bay window vanagon. In same model years , 68 - 78

The bed should fit the same. They’re very similar interior size but I would measure to be safe.
