the biggest problem for me would be to transport 6 meter tubing. Damn, this idea is great. Once I figure out the logistics solution I'll be doing it.

Would be cool if you can fold it away, then that’ll give you even more space if needed! Otherwise, looks sick!

Adding the ability to fold while still being structurally sound requires quite a bit more fabrication time, more material, extra hardware, etc, and in the end I would have a rack that is not quite as rigid as the one I built. It's already very compact (it only extends 60cm / 2 feet from the wall), and I have plenty of space in the rest of the gym for more equipment.

I love the weight stack attachment that you've added! Just one quick question: Where did you get the bushing for the guide rods? And what is the the inner size of the bushing and the outer size of the guide rods? Should it be a tight fit, or should there be like a 1-2mm space between guide rod and bushing? I planned to have 24mm guide rod (outer diameter) and 25 mm bushing (inner diameter) and I wonder if it will work fine. I also notice that you have some weigh plates. I assume that you've got those from some other gym machine. Do you think it is possible (and cost-effective) to make your own weight stack from a solid flat-bar (20x100mm), by cutting it on 30cm bars and drilling holes?

good question. But it is no problem to make them yourself und buy the right size and quality from your local steel dealer. i think it depends on your construction, is it a simple "budget" steel-on-steel bushing or do you plan using any low friction, bushings (mot made out of nylon or pu) to eliminate matal-to-metal contact & reduce impact/vibration noise. Also linear bushings are a option (more pricey!). But for a simple design 1-2mm tolerance or 24mm with 25mm bushing will be enough, more and your weights won't slide smoothly and get 'sticky'. Here it would be best too use metric/ISO tolerances (eg. A11/h11), just as a referece.. I found a lot of weight stack bushings, shafts, top plates, ... available online for good prices, so i would go with one of these plates or bushings and use this hole/Shaft diameter (clearance fit) for choosing my guide bar or get it myself to the desired diameter an the lathe. You can also use your guide bar and try finding fitting bushings but this way makes it more complicated. Most are using 1" diameter for their chromed rods and also for the bishings (anywhere i found the tolerence they use but can't remember) , seems to be the Standard. if i am not wrong it would be clever too use that diameter, especially if you are not building weights, bushings, mounts, etc. all yourself.

Never thought of making the flat bar where the 13mm rod in the J cup is welded into a little longer above where the hole is so the bar doesn’t slam against the frame of the actual rack and not the J cup itself?
@SkylerKingTW4 жыл бұрын
JWB671 I guess you haven’t seen my other videos, or even that second set of red j-cups that I had at the bottom of the rack.

Nice video. One question, what was the gap between the holes and why?

I want one that fits a 4 or 5 foot barbell and that takes the lateral raise attachment. Can mig welding accomplish this or a different welding process? Thanks
@SkylerKingTW2 ай бұрын
MIG welding would be great. It's good for nearly everything.

Brother, im thinking of doing something similar. What are the specs/model of your drill?
@stevebaker63 жыл бұрын
I just picked up an old Department of Corrections squat rack. Its 3x3x1/4 in square tubing. Way over kill. I need to drill holes just like you did. But its welded together. 7ft tall 4ft wide. Should i cut it apart and start over, as in like you did?

how did you attach the pipes to the square tubes? are they removable?

Does anyone make the pre holed racking? I don't have a drill press. I'm looking at building something similar but that I can either fold, or break apart easily. Also, does lowes or home depot sell the framing?

I was looking to make something just like this. Would 40x40x1,6mm work? I'm not planning on going over 250kg any time soon.
@sENkyyy3 жыл бұрын
I haven no cue, but how about comparing it to commercial racks? u can buy 50x50x2mm racks that talk about 500kg. Maybe 1.6mm is enough. But I would suggest to use 50x50 as well so you could buy professional well fitted rack equipment like j-hooks etc. for your diy rack 🤔
@nicolaslandau46923 жыл бұрын
@@sENkyyy Thanks. Yeah I couldn't find 50x50x2mm where I live. But ended up finding some 60x40x2mm and I'm going with it.

What are the benefits of using a squat rack?
@jaleesa002 ай бұрын
Holds a barbell in place that easily loadable for exercises like back squats, rack rows, overhead barbell press.
