Sucking or not is is always relative. The fact that he has huge amounts of specialised equipment I can even imagine having, table saws, air powered nail guns, etc makes me think he is comparing himself to a much higher quality of baseline professional than I would even start to think about.
@ChirstInTheDistance3 жыл бұрын
If you don't mind being a novice carpenter, the best cheapest way I know of is getting a handsaw in some cheap wood from home depot in just getting some measurements for the legs in a descent flat top for the table potion which home depot will cut to size for you. Then just get your nails, power drill some wood glue in design as desired trust me it will come out reasonably fine.

Love the design of the table. Only recommendation would be that when gluing the face end of timber, keep in mind that it will absorb a lot of glue. So when gluing those ends, it helps to give it a coat and leave it for a couple of minutes to absorb. Then come back and apply more glue.

Dang. Love how clean the end result looks, and the rail for attachments is a great idea. I'm guessing the black table top is to allow the table to be used as a normal table, which is a cool space saving idea. Only thing I'd add is gaskets to prevent dust from leaking in, but that's probably more of a problem with where I live.

Very elegant build! I love seeing stuff like this, where good planning and execution plus modest tools make something really solid. Still would've liked a bit more info on one thing: How'd you make the insert cover? Looks like plywood sheet with steel pins to line them up. the tolerance looks like it slides out easily enough, but is snug once they're all in there. Any issues with the leaves scratching the white finish?
@KnarbMakes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much!. There is no steel pins. I marked up the sides of the inserts with marker so I know which order they go in. With some weight, they do sag in the middle, so adding some sort of biscuit system for interlocking would be good in the future. And when I say weight, I mean like standing on the table with my full weight. There is a bit of scratching as I move the inserts around, but I should probably just give it another coat and seal it with a varnish and let it dry properly for a couple of weeks before putting the inserts in. I might make another video on the inserts and attachments at some point. This was one of the first videos I tackled on KZbin so it's a bit rough around the edges LOL

For the planning/sketching stage: Look up the sagulator --- a calculator to see whether your planned build will sag or not. Absolutely essential for e.g. your first few bookshelves (or unusually-sized later ones)... Here it would have removed all worrying "do I need the centre leg or not?". It numerically answers all your questions like "is a 1x4 lying flat stiffer or less stiff than a 1x2 on its narrow side?" [Lying flat = more space for your legs below/ thinner, more elegant; on its narrow side = less material so cheaper and easier to move.] And whatever you're thinking, a torsion box is the answer =D... just make holes in them so it's "storage space" (like the ).

Looks awesome and i love the design, just be REALLY careful if you ever have to move the table! (Like, moving it up stairs or onto a truck and to another place) For a stationary gaming table its perfectly fine, but its not structurally supported. All its got to hold it together is the glue and screws. I know you said you're limited on what you can and cant do (which i totally understand, im not faulting you) but next time youd want to build the supports into the legs with a dado or something like that.
