Yeah, I feel the same way about Washi Tape, it all sort of starts looking the same. Now I don’t know what to do with those rolls. I always think I’m going to use it…. I like making it myself, especially picking up the crusty edges on my gelli plate with double sided tape.

Hi Robyn ….. I may have missed this but I’m wondering if I cut the strips more narrow do you suggest cutting them on/with the acrylic or is there another way you would suggest?
@MrsBarnabas2 жыл бұрын
Cut them on your cutting board before stamping. That way the knife will run through smoothly and not snag on any raised part of paint or glitter. In fact, you can skip the acrylic / acetate part, decorate it on your cutting board and peel it off straight onto your work.

Just wondering if you use a specific brand of masking tape to create your Washi Tape? I know some of the off brands can get “crusty” and disintegrate over time and I want to make some that will last in my journals. Perhaps the nature of the paint makes the masking tape last longer? Also, have you ever tried other types of tape to make Washi? Sorry for all the questions. I love your videos and your energy! You always inspire me to try new things 😊
@MrsBarnabas2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use masking tape permanently on my work. Even the archival stuff will give up after time.
@SusieMathews2 жыл бұрын
@@MrsBarnabas have you ever tried medical grade, paper tape? A couple of books on collage and altered books that I had to read in collage suggested using it, but I didn’t brave it at the time. Just curious if anyone has thoughts on it.
@MrsBarnabas2 жыл бұрын
@@SusieMathews I wouldn't. It isn't made for this sort of thing, and the glue is made to be skin, not paper friendly. I've used it - do use it - as temporary masking tape, because I need a much narrower tape on small pieces, and find that I have to be very careful how I take it off (as I do with washi tape, but not masking tape!), because it is so tacky. If I use a hair drier on it, as with ordinary masking tape, it leave a glue residue behind which picks up eg the bits from a rubber. You can't do the 'on your clothes' thing with it because it picks up so much 'debris'. Hope this helps!
@SusieMathews2 жыл бұрын
@@MrsBarnabas Thank you so much for the info! I hate that residue on my skin from paper tape, so I should have thought of that already. One of the other tape types that the altered books, book editors suggested was artist tape. If I remember correctly (who knows, college was a long time ago), I had to use that type of tape to hinge my mat board mounts for my b&w photography portfolio. It is archival (big plus), has remained flexible (for 20 years), but has a sheen to it. Not quite a gloss, but def not matte. I don’t think it would take the paint without a primer applied first. What are your thoughts on it? I have a ton of it sitting around (the sticky type, not the gummed type).
@MrsBarnabas2 жыл бұрын
@@SusieMathews I remember this vaguely, Susie, and that I used it on some books. When I first moved abroad, I left a lot of books, including a few complete series, to the Nurses' Home sick bay (ie where we lived - I still deeply regret that gift as soon after, everything changed and the residence system changed with it) , so I don't know how that tape fared over time. Does the tape actually still exist (ie to buy)? I suppose there would still be a commercial, as well as arts & crafts, use for it, in spite of the digital take over? It would be interesting to know.

I need a cheat sheet or a reminder about how to get stuff off the gelli plate. Sometimes when I'm jelly printing I get all this delicious stuff left on the plate and it just builds up and builds up and I try to remember all the things you've told us to help pull that off but sometimes nothing I do pulls it up. I guess I'm just not remembering your tips.
@kathyn39782 жыл бұрын
Hi, Donna! Hope you don’t mind my cutting in! You sound like me when I started playing with my gelli plate. It took me awhile to figure out how much paint to use on it for pulling the print. If your last paint layer is too thick, you will not get a good print. Try for the thinnest layer of acrylic paint brayered on top of your DRY design! Hope that helps!
