DIY Waste Oil Rocket Stove

We looked around the shop, found a bunch of random pieces of metal and other odds & ends and decided to build a Waste Oil Rocket Stove!!
We have seen people using these waste oil rocket stoves to heat large garages as well as off grid cabins!
This was created to be added to our current heating system for our Wood Fired Hot Tub to make it a wood/oil combination OFF GRID HOT TUB!!

We love creating awsome DIY builds out of repurposed material that we have laying around the shop! Whats better than a FREE DIY PROJECT?!
One thing we are think abour this build is that it make take some additional time to heat the metal surface that holds the fuel because its a thick piece of metal; others we seen were built with a metal dog bowl but we didn’t have one of those kicking around so as usual WE USED WHAT WE HAD & this design may be changed in the future if we don’t feel its as efficent as the others we seen built!

We had seen a few different variations of them being built and we just gathered up what we had laying around that would work! With enough imagination and will anything can be created! & yeah he would have likely tried firing it up in the garage if I hadn’t said no 😂

It was such a cool little stove to build! Especially being able to gather every item needed out of the scrap metal pile and the odds and ends bucket of plumbing items! PS- didn’t forget about the wood stove explanation video, just been very busy this week!

hmm.. more air to get blue flame? Hows the stench? that would be another hint on how well your getting a more complete combustion. Its pretty hard to burn the additives in the waste oil (actually impossible but high heat will at least break them down little better, blue flame=high heat)

We did try more air but it still didn’t quite make a difference, we are looking at changing out the bowl to something not quite as thick so it will be able to get hotter and also a taller chimney had been suggested from someone who also build this style stove!

@@MacCustoms Real good point on taller chimney! Chimney height improves things because it creates more air flow..... aka it improves the draft (sucks air into burner better because the long chimney creates better vacuum). That may be why putting more air in bottom didnt help. Until the chimney is longer...putting more air access into the burn area, may have done no good, cause there was a back pressure- ?

@coachgeo we dug through the scrap metal pile and came up with another piece of pipe to use as additional length to the chimney! We will give that a try and see if there is any improvement and go from there!!
