This is amazing. I'm kinda sceptical that i won't need to do any annoying pumping motion to syphon the water out. I don't understand how me turning the tap on will help the water drain! Wicked vid

Rachel Smith Hey Rachel thank you for watching, it’s really hard to explain, but it’s essentially gravity and suction. When you turn the tap on it creates a suction on the hose in your tank after a few seconds gravity takes over and it will continually drain. Pretty awesome and convenient! Just make sure the tank is at least as high or higher than the sink and everything will work great

It's pretty much gravity lol the water being turned on forces the water to pull thru the hose. As long as you dont pull the hose from the water it will continue to suction water. Like when you drain a gas tank (people suck a hose a bam has comes out and stops when u introduce air to the hose that's in the gas) same difference

Great video. One point to make though is that everyone needs to keep the end of the hose above the water instead of it being submerged when refilling your tank. I use a plastic clamp to secure my hose to the tank frame to keep it above the water line. If you leave the end submerged and you lose water pressure due to a water main break on the utility water system, all of your water and small fish can be sucked back into your plumbing and even back into the water system, contaminating it. This is one example of what is known as a cross-connection. Thanks again for your informative video.

Yeah it was starting to get ridiculous. I recently got 4 tanks that are older than you. They have stainless steel frames and is made of really thick glass. I got 1 40 gal. long....1 30 gal. long.... a show tank that is 20 gal. This tank is only 8 in. wide and 36 in. long. And 1 10 gal. And 1 40 gal. long with plastic frame. So this water faucet attachment came just in time....

George fish tank I usually put them on the right or left side panel, whichever side your filter intake is on, I have it about 6" below the water surface and then angle it slightly up to create that nice break in surface tension, and still maintaining a looping current in the tank so as the current runs across the bottom it cleans up the waste and pushes it right into your filter intake

OK, I know this video is several years old but -- I own and RV and was warned to never ever to use a standard garden hose because they contain lead (to soften the plastic and make it more flexible) which leaches into the drinking water. We bought a special "potable water" hose that is made for RVs. I see you're using a standard garden hose and of course that wouldn't matter for emptying but I'd be really worried about lead exposure within the aquarium over time if you use it for filling the tank. Have you ever seen any data on that or had any weird issues?

Hello! Question, I’m a new turtle owner and have a 55 gallon tank which I manually drain and fill using buckets...it hurts my back so much and takes forever. Would I have to keep turning the sink on and off to create suction to drain out the whole tank? Or once it’s going does it drain until you lock it back up and screw it? Thank you so much for this video!

I just got one off eBay for $6 and change. Unfortunately, the white cap will not hook onto my sink 😞 I also wonder, though, how do you unhook the hose without water spilling everywhere when you're done? Isn't it going to be full of water and want to pour out one of the ends? Do you have to hold up both ends and drag it outside to empty it? I liked the idea of it though. 👍
@UnconventionalAquatics
@UnconventionalAquatics 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Barb thank you for watching! That’s really a bummer that the adapter did not fit your sink.. was it to small or to big? As far as when you are done with water changes, I simply open the valve on the blue magic and then grab the end of the hose in the tank and start rolling it up, while also keeping it elevated and that will result in all the water in the hose being forced back towards the faucet and into the sink
@barbkelly9604
@barbkelly9604 5 жыл бұрын
@@UnconventionalAquatics It seemed to fit but refused to go on straight without cross threading every time. Messed with it for a while but it wouldn't screw on straight...got frustrated and gave up. Oh, good way to do the hose! I still liked your video and good explanation of everything.

For some reason I can only get the Blue Magic to add water back into the tank. I can't get it to siphon for anything! Ugh.
@UnconventionalAquatics
@UnconventionalAquatics 5 жыл бұрын
Julia Rivs Hey Julia is your tank lower than the sink by chance? When adding water back to the tank just make sure the valve on the bottom is closed and then turn your water on, depending on how far the tank is from the sink sometimes it takes a minute for the water to push through the hose. As far as draining the tank goes, as long as the tank is as high or higher than the tank you shouldn’t have any issues. Open the valve on the blue magic and turn on your water. After 15-30 sec you should see a change in water flow, leave the valve open at the bottom and turn off the water from the sink and water should continue flowing out from your tank. If your still having issues you may have gotten a faulty blue magic... did you just get it?
@NormieNYC
@NormieNYC 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, my tank is a bit lower than the sink and is about 40 feet away. Maybe that's the reason the suction won't work. Thinking of using a powerhead to remove the water and using the hose to just add water back into the tank...
