Let's make a container fountain!!! Y'all won't believe HOW EASY it is - assembly takes less than 15 minutes. You can use any planter or container you have that is sealed without a drain hole and deep enough for the pump to be submerged in water, but the list of EXACTLY what I used is right here:
kit.co/CatherineArensberg/mod...
I bought everything from @homedepot , so it's easy to shop all in one place for the materials you need to complete this project.

I'm so happy with this fountain ( "Fontaine" in French, that's my last name 🙂 ) I'm going to help the neighbor young man make 1. Its true blessing, really, because he was beginning to wander on to the long path. I wandered that path myself. 🤐 He saw me making this fountain and his curiosity got the best of him, now we're making 1 for his parents. They are hard working people doing their best to provide and very kind and loving. They said I was a blessing in their lives because their son is doing so much better... I made a truancy and homework pact with him. 🙈🙉🙊 I wanted to let you know that you helped a 13 year old young man curve back to the good path in life. Thank you for being a blessing in so many lives. 🙏🏼

Instead of topping it off with water manually, if you have a drip irrigation system you can run a drip line to the pot and put the right size emitter to fill the pot with the appropriate level of water. Where I live summer reaches around 95-105 degrees and I use a 5 gallon emitter for 20 minutes 3 times a week and that’s perfect for the summer time for a container that is approximately 75 gallons and 28” at the opening as an example. You can play with emitter size and duration to dial yours in. Pro Tip- if you have a newer irrigation system most are comparable with a solar sinc sensor which adjusts the duration on all water stations based on temperature and if it rained recently. While this is mainly to conserve water and prevent overwatering sensitive plants it also adjusts the amount of water filling my containers. I have 1 large fountain out front and a few in the backyard with bog plants and fish

Nicely done. I’ve made multiple fountains. The hardest thing to do is figuring out a tray to fit in the planter and be able to hold the weight of the rocks then hiding the cord.

These water feature are also great ideas for people struggling with too much stress. This bubbling sound is very soothing. No need to use distilled water. The water will evaporate so it needs to be added depending on your humidity level. There is no filter to be cleaned. The pump is made with a water proof electric cord :) The LED is for night time viewing.

I just discovered this video and I ordered everything from Home Depot but the saucer size they sent me says it’s a 16 in but it doesn’t fit tightly on the planter. Should I try a l7 in. Please advise.
@CatherineArensberg
@CatherineArensberg Жыл бұрын
The planter should be tapered - wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, and the saucer should fit down into the planter as it is pushed into the narrower area. BUT if that doesnt work, then try a 17", as long as the top of the planter is at least that diameter.

I made my first fountain today. Could not find a pot at Home Depot like in video. The pump I bought is not working the best as far as patterns with the nozzles (I have contacted the company). I did find that my pump had a 3 prong & using a 1" hole saw I bought, wasn't quite big enough, I finally got it the size I needed, by taking a huge screwdriver and forcing it around the edges. The last issue is the tray I bought seemed absolutely fine at the store (I took it in the store I bought the pot from), then once I added the rocks from center out, as in the video, next thing I knew, it was heavy enough, the tray wants to fall in & droop on one side. I think I will add another heavy block (I did that to deter someone stealing the whole thing), that way, the tray can rest on the block & still cover the entire top of the pot. Whew! What a day! That isn't half of it, been to like 12 places, including an important Dr. appt. Thanks Catherine, I used a lot of your advice on making this. Not bad for my first one! Live & learn OR is it learn & live, lol.

@@CatherineArensberg Hi Catherine, a huge thanks for the reply! I reached out to the company last night, they've already answered me about the water shooting so high. I haven't checked yet, supposedly I can take the pump & adjust the amount of water that way. Do birds use it?? Or is it more of just a decorative feature?? I'm gonna do a similar build, with the pump at the bottom of a reservoir, but I'm gonna have the extra water simply overflow over a side, back into the bottom of the bucket. This will give the birds a bath to play in. I'll have some sort of catch netting near the overflow to eliminate any little critters drowning.

Did you have to put something in the bottom of the pot to raise up the pump or was the hose from the pump tall enough to rise up above the rocks while the pump sat at the bottom of the planter pot? In other words, how tall is the pump from its feet at the bottom to the top of the decorative nozzle?
@CatherineArensberg
@CatherineArensberg 3 жыл бұрын
I sat the pump on the bottom of the planter, but I did keep it in place by placing half a brick on either side of it. If your container is taller you can always put a block under the pump to lift it a bit. As long as the water covers the pump, where it sits in thr planter doesn't matter. Hope this helps!

No issue at all! It's more likely that you'll have to add water to it if it doesnt get enough rain water. Evaporation happens fast!

I couldn't find one of those trays. Unless I bought new which was like $50. The pump was $45, the extra tubing was $15, the spout was $15 (lowes). I did 2 tears, the matching pots cost $50 (walmart) all of my rocks (I needed a lot to fill the pots) cost $75 (lowes) I live in Canada. And we are in lock down. Shopping for cheaper items is nearly impossible. Oh and the pump screeches once in a while. I'm not thrilled. I couldn't get it to level in my garden,without buying more stuff. So I put it at the bottom of my steps.

Fellow Canadian here. Next time get the pump from an irrigation company at end of season sale or online for way cheaper than Canadian big box stores. Also, head to a local beach or river for beautiful smooth rocks. They aren’t black but when wet they’re gorgeous, variations in color and pattern and free! Or use a Micheals 40% coupon and get rocks there, bringing a family member to use another coupon or go back repeatedly until you have enough bags of discounted polished rocks. End of season sales at retailers or online will also provide awesome discounts on vases, urns and trays. I always figure out a cheaper, maybe less convenient way, of producing something and it feels way better knowing how much money I didn’t spend. Cheers.

With this project. How are you supporting the tray that the black stones are in? With that much weight you would think that supporting the tray is extremely important.
@CatherineArensberg
@CatherineArensberg Жыл бұрын
It wedges in there and only gets tighter with the weight because the planter is tapered.
@patrickatkinson4509
@patrickatkinson4509 Жыл бұрын
But with the chance that the match up between planter pot and plastic tray doesn't work out to SNUG! How would you suggest that the tray BE SUPPORTED FROM THE UNDERSIDE....if we were to use your fountain template as our blueprint? Find the outer pot shouldn't be a problem. Finding a tray that SNUGS UP inside the pot might be a bit more challenging.
@CatherineArensberg

@@patrickatkinson4509 you could use bricks on either side of the pump to hold up the tray weight. ❤️
