Hey I love your board, I’m having a hard time making my lines straight and putting my decal on straight, any tips ?
@UnicornDustDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Hi Christyn. So if you're using the same wood round as myself there are definitely lines there where the wood is glued together. I use those as my straight line guides and follow them when laying my tape. As for the decal I really just look down onto my sign and eye ball it. What's great about this sign is the BOO doesn't necessarily have to be straight because of it's font and how it's kind of floating there.

@stephaniewilliams9564 жыл бұрын
Hi! Two questions for you (I’m a newbie so apologies if this is stupid lol) I was told that after you stain wood you should seal it then do a primer coat before painting then seal it again..... I see here that you stain then go right to paint Have you tried the other way or are those just extra unnecessary steps that I can skip? If they will be out doors will they hold up? Lastly you said you played with acrylic paint this time... what type of paints do you find best?
@UnicornDustDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Hello Stephanie. So I find that if you stain and then put a layer of clear on after, it will give a texture to your piece of wood that I personally don't like. So that's why I stain and then paint. I use Helmsman in order to protect the signs for outdoor elements. You could put 1-3 coats of that on. However, this was also my first time working with vinyl and I did not put a clear over it soooo not sure on that.

@UnicornDustDesigns4 жыл бұрын

Hi i have another question my husband made the holes and he took off a very large piece of wood so i was thinking of fixing it with wood putty because the black would hide that. Any thoughts on that and is there a certain size of drill bit, he started with a small bit to start the hole and then went in with larger bit than it cracked a large piece. thanks
@UnicornDustDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle. Was he drilling on the line where the wood is glued together? Ummm I believe I put the drill bit size in description but if not I will find it for ya. Wood filler would work just fine if you’re keeping it for yourself. If you’re selling it I would make another one.

Ya know I’ve started seeing that too. I’ve been making signs for around two years ago and have never used anything and have never seen sap come through. I’m curious to know how you would use it though. Because usually if you put a clear before painting it adds a texture 🤔🤔🎃

@@UnicornDustDesigns I've just started making the signs but I have followed your sometime and never thought about the sap. Some say to use shellac but seems like another to use shellac and a sealant aftwards.
@UnicornDustDesigns4 жыл бұрын
So I wonder - do you put it ... say over your stencil as it’s first layer of white - since that’s the color it comes in and then put the white chalk paint over that 🤔
@georginagarcia74714 жыл бұрын
@@UnicornDustDesigns I saw that about coming in white.. hmmm not sure. If you haven't noticed anything on yours I'm taking your advise. Can I ask have you evern used birch rounds? Any good or stick to pine?

How thick should the signs be?

It’s all preference. The signs I’m using are 1/2”

To avoid the tears in the wood, put a piece of wood underneath and it helps apparently.

I usually do that with my smaller signs. I’ve also heard if you put painters tape over it too! Thank you so much for watching Cindy!

Do you ship these round signs? I want to try some to put on my Etsy shop but I’m worried shipping will be INSANE!
@UnicornDustDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Hello Hayley! I don't ship these very often and I actually just got boxes to ship these rounds on Etsy. I'm going to be using pizza boxes and I don't believe it's outrageous on Etsy. They actually price their shipping very well.

To prevent your would from splitting always put a thick piece of wood under what your drilling your hole through .

The trick is how it hangs. When doing a double-sided sign, one side always looks a bit off when you hang it .

I have heard of people using heat transfer vinyl and heat press it to wood.

Yes! I will definitely try that next time!

Hi, I've subscribed and hit the bell icon beside the subscribe button but still wasn't notified about this new post. The only reason I see it is because I've been coming back to watch your channel daily. Do you know why the notifications aren't working?
@brandidrake244 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it is because I was watching your other videos when it was uploaded. Please let me know if you have any insight. Thanks so much!

🤣🤣 that could be it. If your bell is set to “ALL” you should be notified every time I post. It was probably because you were watching a video on my channel already l

How is the “Boo!” Decal holding up so far?

Somebody actually ended up wanting to buy it so I haven't heard anything :/ Hopefully that means it's holding up.

I swear by only using iron on htv on my wood and glass projects!

@@UnicornDustDesigns my easy press mini is my go to for ironing onto glass and wood. The easy press larger size works too especially for larger projects!

Crooked holes add character and to be honest nobody will notice. Handmade means there are going to be imperfections and make the piece unique. The next time you need to drill a hole especially one that large. First drill a smaller hole then follow up with the larger bit. Less chance of the drill bit skipping like it did on you. Great work as always.

Thank you Chuck! I didn’t notice after putting the bow on at all. Thought it would make it lopsided but nope 😊 and thank you for the tip. I’ve also heard to put painters tape on top of the wood to help from splitting wood. Have you tried that before? Thank you so much for watching!

@@UnicornDustDesigns Yes, I have used tape to help stop ship out on the top side of a hole. I also use a backer board under the piece I am drilling through to reduce blow out on the backside. On a side note I decided I am going to try some of these wood round door hangers. I have been to Home Depot, Menard's, and Lowe's and none of them have had wood rounds for weeks. I am guessing that it's due to the lumber shortage and mills being behind.
