I’m wondering about the threads on most of the fire hose available (I’m looking at decommissioned forestry hoses $59 for 75’) with NH thread couples which don’t seem compatible with standard PVC pipe threads. Also, on the pump, what format is the 2” male thread you connected your first “T” too?
@sculptureforasmallplanet6 күн бұрын
Yeah, the NH are not compatible with PVC. This web page explains pretty well, firehosedirect.com/blogs/expert-help/fire-hose-nh-vs-npsh You can get adaptors though. Price it out and it may work out. The pump is National Pipe Thread so a 2" PVC female screws right on and even though its a tapered tread hand tight with the leverage of the 1.5" T is plenty to keep it from leaking at these pressures. If you tap off a full port valve before your home pressure reducer valve you'll get a 3/4" pipe @ 80-110psi, which is around 20GPM out of a 100' 3/4" garden hose. Which is less still than the pool pump but enough flow and pressure to equip a legit forestry nozzle at the end of the hose and do some serious firefighting. For reference a typical home garden spigot outputs around 5GPM max @ 50PSI or so, and those plastic gardening nozzles will reduce that flow down to maybe 2-3GPM.

@sculptureforasmallplanet4 күн бұрын
Your welcome. To start I would only use Schedule 40 for all of this. For my set up, I go from the 2" (F) which connects to the 2" (M) pump, to a 2" T and then reduce from 2" to 1.5" and then to 1.5" (M) threaded connectors. I used a little short piece of 2" pipe to connect the T to the 2"(M) threaded connector. You might be able to find a Street T so you don't have to buy 10' of 2" pipe when you only need 6". But this is getting really complicated if you have a good local hardware store they can help as well. I'm going to make another video today that will explain the decision making process and how to get a set up for your specific needs. Hope this helps! Thanks,

CA resident here. I would like to do something like this, but in a fixed configuration where the water is more of a spray than a stream in order to cover more area. One issue I see is mandatory evacuation. I’m not sure how lenient LEO will be with allowing home owners to stay. I’m pretty sure they would not allow it. Thank you for sharing.
@sculptureforasmallplanet6 күн бұрын
Hello! I was born and raised in CA and still have family there. The nozzles that I use go from a wide fanning spray, down to a stream by twisting them. They can also be twisted down to shut of the water completely. www.firehosesupply.com/collections/spray-nozzles/products/fog-nozzle?variant=280181794 I don't know what different mandatory evacuation situations would bring. But when the Dixie fire was threatening my parents home, and the law enforcement officers told us it was mandatory evac we told that we didn't want to leave and they just took our names. You can see it in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apmrdJ-XapJ9mbs But then latter on during that same Dixie fire they sherif pulled the mandatory off and let the residence back into Greenville. Then 2 days latter the fire flared up and was head straight for Greenville. The fire crews and LEO's were trying to get the residence out some of who refused. Lucky everyone got out but unfortunately the historic town was incinerated. So I don't know about where you live but some of my friends have been under mandatory evacuation several times but never have left. I'm not saying that people should do this because it can be dangerous. The other thing about where my friends and family live, when they are under mandatory evacuation if they leave they can't get back in. So they have to be prepared to live with out going to the store or electricity for long durations. Check out the stories about folks who have saved their homes and see if you can get any clues as to how the dealt with the law. But always be safe! Hope this was helpful,

Hello, I acctually can't remember where I got my fire hose it was either firehosedirect.com/ or www.firehosesupply.com/ this place is just as good too rawhidefirehose.com/ Find the one that has the best prices and costumer service. I use single jacket 50' foot hose www.firehosesupply.com/collections/1-5-inch-hose/products/1-1-2-inch-single-jacket-fire-hose Single jacket is good if you are using on lawn and relatively none cutting surfaces. (Although I have hauled mine out in the woods several times to fill my pool from spring and run them over the rocks and stuff and they are fine.) I like the 50' lengths because they are easier to deal with but you should map out where you want your hoses and get the lengths that work for your house. I use aluminum NPSH, straight pipe thread fittings that work with PVC pipe except for connecting male ends, then you need an adaptor. This web page explains it well. firehosedirect.com/blogs/expert-help/fire-hose-nh-vs-npsh For the nozzles I have something like this www.firehosesupply.com/collections/spray-nozzles/products/fog-nozzle?variant=280181794 Make sure you get the right threads on the nozzles as well. @@sculptureforasmallplanet Thank you so much! I would suggest putting some of this info in your description so more people can see it. I'll definitely be building a system similar to this. Quick question, with the hoses, can you connect multiple together if you need ones longer than 50 feet?

Thanks. I'm going assemble this rig for my home in Los Angeles. Thankfully, my home survived but I want to be prepared for the future. How many sq ft is your property? Mine is about 1/4 acre. How many hoses do you think I need ?
@sculptureforasmallplanet7 күн бұрын
That's a good question. My property is 8.5 acres. My set up only covers the structures. I think the best way for you to figure what you need is first choose what length hose you want to use. I like the 50' hoses because they are easier to deal with than longer ones. Then get a piece of rope the length of the hose that you want to use. Starting from where you'll put your pump run your rope out to measure the length of the hoses. Put a stakes in the ground at the ropes ends then you can figure where you need T's and where you need nozzles. From any nozzle you will be able to cover a 50 or so foot radius with a significant amount of water. I would imagine 3 or 4 nozzles would probably cover your house pretty well. And you could even probably keep your neighbors covered as well. Could always add lines if you test it and you need more. Hope this helps and stay safe!

I see that you're immediately reducing from 2" to 1.5" fire hose and the fitting your showing us (the screenshot of the FireHoseDirect site) you're choosing a 1.5" to 1" reducer. I'm assuming, as you mentioned, it was the differing weight difference in the two hoses? Any concern about operation during actual emergency that would validate pump manual warning? Thanks!! Great video.

Thanks I’m glad you liked it. Yeah the 1.5” to 1” is a mistake, sorry. I was just trying to show the male to female adapters. But you’re right about reducing from 2” to 1.5” 2” hose is really heavy! Not only do I reduce to 1.5” I also turn off the lines so the pump isn’t moving any water at all for times. I tested and it didn’t get hot a little warm is all. Pump has been running good for years no problems. I have filled and drained the pool twice with it fooled around with fire hoses and haven’t noticed any changes. But realize this pump is designed or advertised for this application at all. The pumps that are designed and advertised for this type of thing cost a lot more. I think some of them produce a little more pressure but personally I’m happy with this cheap one. Hope this helps and thanks again,
