You're right... no one ever addresses how to get the perfect half. Amazing... and simple. I sell whiskey and wine barrels as a business, I'll be sure to pass this on to my customers if this pans out. Awesome job!!!

Thanks, Jay! It definitely turns what used to be the hardest and most stressful step, into one of the easiest.

Hello im just getting started in making wine barrel crafts, question the blade you used to cut the band with did you use it also to cut the wood? Also it looked like the barrel head just came off after cutting I thought the staves lock the barrel head in?? Thanks for your time and your video

what do you do with the inside? do you coat it with something so that whatever you put inside doesn't end up purple from wine stains?
@zackoblinger75964 жыл бұрын
I gave it a couple coats of spray poly. Ended up using 2 or 3 cans inside. We use it to store blankets and still no purple stains so I’d say it worked out good.

Is there a specific reason structurally to add the bolts? Are the self tappers not enough to hold the barrel together?
@zackoblinger75963 жыл бұрын
Self tappers would probably work. I just used the bolts because I had them.

Oak and steel are very strong materials, it’s best to use strong fasteners.

What screws did you use on the metal straps?
@zackoblinger75963 жыл бұрын
The screws were just regular drywall screws. They were just there to hold everything in place temporarily. I ended up drilling the holes out for 1/4x20 carriage bolts

I cut a door out for a beer cooler. Now the door won't work right. Any idea why?
@zackoblinger75963 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen people make what you’re talking about but I’ve never tried it myself. I’m not sure what would be going on with yours
@calebbeery29273 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking about doing this but instead of a square top I want it to follow the edge of the barrel. I feel like it wouldn't hide the barrel so much
@calebbeery29273 жыл бұрын
But with like a 2 or 3 inch overlap
@zackoblinger75963 жыл бұрын
Yep I’ve made a few of these now. The one in the video has a larger top and I think I like the smaller one better. Like you said it doesn’t hide the barrel as much.
@keevandoherty71862 жыл бұрын
What’s the name of the varnish or finish u put on the wood
@zackoblinger75962 жыл бұрын
It’s just regular 2x pine

I’m so embarrassed at the effort I just spent the day making to get my 2 halves nice and flat. The slats are all different widths, so I just assumed (wrongly) they wouldn’t make perfect halves.
