Well done, on the whole Couple of pro-tips. It's way easier to get an aluminum turkey pan - big basting pan from the dollar store, throw in your pipe, flanges, tees, etc. and let them soak in mineral spirits/varnish for 5 mins. Give them a good scrub with the rough side of a sponge or steel wool. Dry them with a rag. Don't use paste. Use a spray on primer with rust inhibitors - e.g. Rustoleum or Temclad - 2 coats. Then 2 coats of spray on Rustoleum/Tremclad in whatever color and gloss you like. Pipes will stay clean and won't rust that way.

Thank you! I guess I need to get on top of this stuff. I love how the outdoor sofa turned out too! I just used some construction grade L-brackets and 2x4's for the seat and back braces, and a futon mattress with an outdoor cover for the cushion! I would advise that you construct it on site. That thing is a beast to try to move!

Great video Laurie! But, I'm with some of the other people... my back was killing me watching you do all that work on the floor. But, hey... that's about me and my bad back! Oh... and wearing flip flops... yikes! My toes were flinching the whole time. :-) I was wondering why you need to protect all the piping. I am in the process of doing research to try to design a desk for my husband and hadn't seen that step during my research. Thanks again for a very informative video!!
@laurieshultz7052
@laurieshultz7052 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Joan! The idea behind the whole process with the pipes is first to clean all of the gunk off of them and then to protect them from rusting. Some people prefer the aesthetics of letting them rust, so it's really whatever you prefer!

I like you energy. I have an old IKEA book shelf that’s circling the drain. I was going to haul it to the garage and paint it, but it’s not sturdy. I like how you varied the height to surround your window. The gray stain was unexpected but it works in your space and I’ll bet will be a color you’ll like for a long time to come. I’m gonna give it a shot. Thank you.

Hi Earl! I believe this cost me around $350. I think about $80 in lumber and the rest in pipe fittings. I have since discovered that you can buy some decorative pipe fittings at a fraction of the cost on Amazon. If I had to do it again, I would definitely go that route!

It has been awhile since I made this, but I would estimate that it cost around $350. The hardware that I used was from Home Depot and it was actual plumbing pipe fittings. I have since discovered that Amazon carries some decorative hardware that looks just as awesome, but costs much much less! Definitely something to look into!
