I’m sure it wouldn’t be to hard to make smaller by just reducing the cut lengths. You may want to use boards not as wide to help it look proportional. Happy building

I made 3 snowflakes also from woodshop diaries 3 years ago. On one of them, I reduced the sizing. They came out great. Got some thin garland from the store, intertweaveved it through the snowflakes, and added some ornaments. The stained snowflakes came out great. I also painted one and it also was just as nice when decorated.

How can i reduce the size please

@@lucojay2008 I first decided how much of a percentage to shrink the original sized snowflake and picked 87.5% of the original size. I also reduced the width to 2.5"w, since it was smaller. The measurements are simple. Just multiply the original cut lengths by whatever percent you want. Example (smaller snowflake 87.5% of original size) original cut = 3.5"; reduced = 2.675". I put the measurements into Excel and it did it for me. It also added up how many strips I'd need to buy, based on 96" lengths. The cuts went sooo quick once it was organized. I had a cut checklist. Cut the longest pieces first. Original = 31"h x 35"w Reduced = 23"h x 26"w I went crazy and even made an original sized one using 2.5"w. Didn't use it as a shelf: Screwed in small eye hooks to hang ornaments.

My completed snowflake. I am very happy with the way it turned out. I decided to mount it on a base so that it did not have to hang it from the wall. Thank you again for the measurements and angles. Looking forward to doing some of your other projects over the winter months.

Really enjoyed this video and the finished product! You earned bonus points with me when you mentioned cutting those inner triangles two different lengths for symmetry! So many of these things turn out “woppyjawed” looking because of both halves of the triangles being the same length. I’m getting ready to build at east a couple of these, but I think I’m going to try applying the finish to the boards before I start cutting. When completed, the project would only need touch up! An old trim carpenters trick! Stay safe, stay well!

Thanks for the comment. I used some 1x4 common boards from the local hardware store but you could use any wood you wanted. It would look amazing with a hardwood.
