Another super video about rice fish, I will never get tired of hearing about this incredible little fish. As you know I love keeping them here in the UK, I net my tubs to help stop birds transferring eggs, plants etc.

I read that ducks and other water birds move fish from pond to pond and other waterways usually from eggs that get stuck in their feathers or on their feet. They also move plants the same way. Frogs have moved duckweed from one of my little ponds to others.
@AQUAPROS6 ай бұрын
Duckweed would be super easy to move! Makes sense!

My personal fry food mix that I feed for Fry, baby shrimp, and even the adult medaka: Tertra tropical grains (ground with mortar and pestal), dried spirulina, tiny pinch of Indian almond leaf powder. I make nearly all a powder with a couple slightly bigger chunks. This will make instant biofilm on the surface and other things and anything floating/sinking is small enough for medaka to eat.

I've not heard of any restrictions here in the UK, I saw a video of someone in Ireland that keeps his rice fish outside all year round. Mine have been spawning in doors all winter and i have tons of platinum whites. Im gunna try mine outside when the summer comes and i can kinda match the temperature to my indoor tank.

MN Zach here. 1st things first… keep the rice fish videos coming. Truly don’t mind it at all, although I’d love to see an update on your guppies, and also results from your food tests. 2nd… I for real thought there was some weird video editing glitch or witchcraft happening at 4:10 because I’d never seen your rainbows so still before. One side of your head had movement and the other side was dead still… until they moved just slightly 😅😂 Keep em coming Mike! Thanks for all you do! I’m ordering more LEGIT tonight 👌

I think here in Britain we're pretty sensitive to invasive species, elodea has caused some major issues in water ways. Signal crayfish have out competed/killed off native crayfish, destroying river banks. Water hyacinth got banned a few years ago (gutted about that one).

Love this. Great ideas and inspiration. Coming from someone who is a Mar Bio background and now teaches all the environmental sciences, you should be fine. I think the worst case scenario would be it being classified as a " naturalized species" like goldfish, because they are not likely to dramatically alter the ecosystem. If you are actually concerned about this, hit me up and I can talk you through it all.

Great video man. Lots of good info for folks starting out. Selection is always difficult and you'll find if you really start digging for certain traits there are maybe only 5 out of 100. Thats one of the things that can make the breeding tedious. Also when notes come in handy. Haha. Cant wait to see what comes of the season. Enjoy the relax time brother 💪🏼💪🏼

I love Ricefish! Got mine at the 2022 Dallas Aquashella. I keep mine outdoors all year here in DFW zone 8a. Only the top 4" freezes on my buckets during the winter, so far the strong survive and reproduce each year. Only challenge I have is predatory water bugs.

I don't read a lot of the comments you get, but i am always happy to hear about rice fish and what you're up to with them. I live in Yuma, AZ, with a west facing patio, so they would cook in these conditions, or I would definitely be setting up a rice fish pond. Thanks!

@ZenCoryCat6 ай бұрын
@@AQUAPROS I'm not sure, to be honest 🤔. Could they survive the kind heat? There is no sun block at all and gets up to 120 in the summer. I kind of think pond season would be winter time for me. That would not give them that cold break though.
@AQUAPROS6 ай бұрын
@@ZenCoryCat i just dont know AZ that well, i know you can have 120F days in the summer, the ricefish can tolerate like up to 108F, not ideal obviously but if your pond is 2ft deep and in the full shade im pretty sure if would be much cooler at the bottom, ypud just have to do a little more research if you really wanna do it 🤷♂️
