I feel like the whole "moving up the property ladder" thing is very British. It's almost like a national obsession that I as an immigrant don't quite understand. However, I was introduced to the concept by the Sarah Beeny TV programme and that showed me the attraction of making money by flipping houses and seeing your hard work bear fruits. So you really shouldn't be apologetic about your plans, even though your audience may have another view of house buying than yourself.

You should consider a pocket door for the "toilet" room. It will give you more space and keep the door from being an obstacle in the hallway. If you have framers in moving the walls, putting in the pocket is something they can do fairly quickly. They just have to remove the wall surface, remove any vertical studs that are in the way and then put in a couple of horizontal studs to brace the door jam.
@HermioneChantal4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment 😀 sadly there’s a bump out on the left that’s made of concrete and I think it would cost too much to take it down otherwise a sliding door would have been a fantastic use of space!

For some reason, as I see so many of your makeover/DIY vids, I just assumed your house was all fixed up! It's very exciting to be able to plan something.... can't wait to see the finished product. I have noticed that the black tiles appear to be in fashion but I personally prefer the grey in your other bathroom! But I also live in an apartment so I tend to look at colours that make things bigger; I wish I knew how to style black though! I like the idea of a standalone bath and matte shower, taps etc. I know you will sell the place but to see you put so much effort into the house and then sell it down the road, feels almost wasted.... I mean, there's so much love in it! But I understand your philosophy. If you want to move to London eventually and property does cost a lot there, it makes sense. I know a lot of people here in Sydney who bought apartments as investments then sold them to buy houses, once they got married and had kids. Mind you prices have gone up a lot. I can't afford a house with single income. My brother has the same philosophy; he buys older apartments, that are run down, refurbishes them and rents them out to make living. But he's no way as creative as you though he's done lots of stuff like install ikea kitchens, upgrade plumbing (with a plumber's help) etc. He helped me rip out the carpets in my place when I first bought it as I hate carpets (yes, I know like Britain, they are popular in bedrooms in Australia too) and I put in laminate flooring as I can't afford timber. Really cannot wait to see the next step.

This was such a lovely comment to read! Thank you so much for sharing ☺️ I agree that I prefer the grey in the other bathroom, they’re so fresh! I thought I would try something different in this one but didn’t stray very far oops 🙈 It’s so interesting to hear that in Sydney people do a similar thing, it’s a shame that the prices have gone up so much. I think it’s similar in London and it prices people out of the city. Your brother sounds like a great person to help with your place, you’re so lucky that you have someone with so much knowledge around, I am very jealous ☺️ thank you for your comment hope you have a lovely week!

Love your videos Hermione your not afraid to tackle anything. I have been watching your videos for a couple of years but id no idea these rooms existed.I may be putting the cart before the horse here....have you thought about using this tiny bedroom as a office/study/workroom space as it's very small to utilise as a bedroom. Obviously if you were ever to rent or sell your property you have the option of marketing the rooms as you please to increase revenue & attract more buyers. If you design it as a bedroom....Will you get any use out of it? Can't wait to see what you do 💗

If you remove any original architrave or skirting don't dispose of it, you can sell or freecycle it, people are always looking for pieces to match existing ones in their homes, same with floorboards and floorboard slivers. A bit of advice for anyone doing a renovation is to do the hall, stairs and landing last, everything and everyone going in and out of the house has to come via that route so walls get knocked, paint scuffed and carpets get dirty.
