Check if your city has a tool library! They're hardly ever advertised, making them wonderful little secrets! They're usually run by volunteers, too, who can help you learn how to use them.

LOL, I am that WOMAN! I own cool tools and a Landrover Defender. Unfortunately I now live in Bulgaria, so NO thrift shops and very few craft shops! Yeah, yeah I know, Use the internet... but postage to here is a KILLER ! Never mind I make my own beeswax polish, add food colouring or kids powder paints to colour stuff, make my own limebased paint (whitewash) which you can also use as as fller for wall holes!. laugh, just have to have a can do think outside the box attitude.... Love to you all. have a good Christmas and be Happy and safe for the next year!

I’ve been married to a custom cabinet maker for over forty years, so I don’t attempt building things myself, but sure enjoy all your ideas. I was super stoked to see this DIY since I’ve been drooling over that shelf for a while. Then you showed a screenshot from “The Honest Carpenter” and I was like “Holy ***^! I know that guy!” - He worked with my husband at a bookstore for several years, and then decided to go into carpentry. I remember being excited for him, because it just seemed so natural to him and he seemed so passionate about it. Glad to see he’s still out there going strong! BTW - your shelf replica looks great to me! Might even try my hand at it when I have a little more time to work on a project!

@@xylindria9077 I'm thinking this too. It would be alot of maneuvering to cut the holes on a table. I wondered why she didnt cut it in sections then fill in the cracks. Would be a good use for smaller scraps of wood if you have it. This is my fav Danie dupe so far!!

@@TheRaquel84 I thought about this, too. Place the piece on sawhorses and use 1/4" or 3/8" plywood instead of MBF. She wouldn't have to use such a downward force to ease her wrists. Maybe a Dremel on the 1/4" plywood?

I made the same sort of tent around the edges of our attic stair manhole, including on the floor, just the other day, so I could avoid rat dust coming down while I went up there to screw some timber where I wanted to hang a chandeleir in our dining area. And I was in painters disposable overalls with hood, gloves, mask and (touch of genius!) dog poop bags taped up over my socks! Got the job done!!

Nice project! You can also get a good paint job on the edges of MDF if you give it two or three coats of sanding sealer before painting. If you use spray paint you'll get an almost glass like finish.

This is beautiful, I once saw a shelf made of big plaster bricks, rounded here and there and everywhere and I loved it on the spot. This looks a bit like that, very organic and clean and I'd love to have one of my own, although I'll never be able to build one due to health issues. I love watching you building things and you just made my day LOL

so cool you made this! I've been thinking about a way to make this with an existing bookcase. To make it look like it just came out of a Grecian cave, I would mold chicken wire and use plaster to make the rounded cubby holes. Something like that, for those of us who don't have woodshop skills.
