There are a lot of negative comments here, mostly by people who must be heavily into consumerism, and/or not interested in recycling and reusing. With imagination and thoughtfulness you have created an unique garment. Well done you!!!

Not even in regard to comments here, there are so many aspects of doing things better for the environment than household recycling etc. Even some well meaning people wouldn't stop to think that acrylic/nylon clothing too torn, stained etc that donation shops won't take them, is going to sit in a landfill for hundreds of years.

DIY Edigna: That’s a nice job you did in rescuing that sweater. When I first saw you cut it, all I could imagine was the sweater starting to unravel before you could get the work done; The bias tape was sure good idea to encapsulate the stitches before that could happen. You are the only person I’ve ever seen turn a corner with bias tape like that without mitering; what a nice, clean, flat corner you made in a place that should’ve turned out bulky. I think I’ll watch that little segment over and over to see how exactly you did it. Before seeing this segment, it would never have occurred to me to do that, but now I can see an application for that and they put in the time to learn that skill. That looks like a nice comfy little sweater set for puttering around the house on a cool day that you’ve ended up with. Thank you very kindly for demonstrating one way to rescue a very nice quality warm sweater that a person might otherwise not get more use from.

Could I just recommend purchasing only pure wool or cashmere, even at thrift stores or flea markets, because these don't contaminate as a synthetic or blend of different material. Pure wool is capable of being cleaned only with sun, fresh air and a breeze. This has been confirmed in the literature of the Vedas (from reliable sources). Pure silk also does not need water or any detergent or any kind of laundry even dry cleaning. It's very resistant to being polluted. Hope you have fun days of creativity. Thanks 🌷

Thats the best video ive seen so far to upcycle a sweater. I was searching for a video to take off a cowl neckline on a sweater and came across this. This is even better as i love a cardigan rather than a sweater. Im going to try this on an old sweater first, then if it goes well, do it to my cowl neck one which was a Christmas present just I hated the collar. Now i can have it as a cardigan. Thankyou for sharing.

I can appreciate the professional tailoring skills demonstrated in this video. The seamstress is a talented professional. I did not appreciate that it is represented as a DIY when that acronym stands for Do It Yourself and the field is aimed at new or moderate to intermediate-level sewers. Also, the sweater use in the project was brand new and had never been worn or stretched. This was not recycle or upcycling, which is the ecological reason many wish to do this, to extend the life of their clothing. In addition it used some serious new yardage for all the bias tape made for the project, which it did not demonstrate could have been made much more simply with a $2 bias tape tool. The final sweater was “cute”, but very 1980’s, many, many hours of labor for a DIY sewer who would likely end up with a puckered, unwearable mess, and the sweater in it’s original form was much more fitting of today’s clean aesthetic.It could have been simply and quickly deconstructed by cutting off the turtle neck, band bottom, and adding thumb holes.
@ellieisbusy4 жыл бұрын
Do It Yourself is for everyone, because we all have different skill levels as we travel that path. I didn’t see a single technique I didn’t know how to do, and I’m an intermediate sewer. Maybe you’re not there yet, but you shouldn’t judge a video by your own sewing levels, we’re all different (which is a great thing, we can help each other grow). My jumpers of 3 and 4 years look like this (new) because they’ve been well cared for, so we can’t really say whether this one is brand new or not - also, it serves as a good example of something that we could have found in a charity shop, or maybe been gifted but wouldn’t wear as is. You don’t need to copy the style 100% if you don’t like it, but it’s a great inspiration to create something that would suit you... (I love thumb holes myself but my mother wouldn’t be caught dead wearing them, so to each their own). As for the bias tape tool, I have them, but always end up making mine as she does... I guess it’s also a question of preference.

I could have done this back in the day. She is very skilled but the garment is a combination of doable techniques. I am 65 and started sewing at age 4. My mother taught me, then I learned by constantly trying new things because I loved it! Sewing is like anything else - practice makes perfect! If you love it, keep at it! Don’t ever look at something and think you can’t! Do not despise the day of small beginnings. The mighty oak was once an acorn!
@tulayamalavenapi40282 жыл бұрын
Nice! I love to sew too. Now I could see myself shopping a thrift store or flea market for those pure wool or cashmere sweaters that have a hole or a rip and remaking it. I WOULD NEVER USE POLYESTER OR ANY SYNTHETIC FABRIC. But because pure wool and cashmere doesn't contaminate and always remains so, it's a safe material. Cotton needs laundering, but pure wool only needs air & sunshine. Same with pure silk, no laundering needed. Have a beautiful time in your sewing. 🌺🌸🏵️🌸🌺
