I go through the considerations of which parts to buy for my Framework laptop while trying to keep the price as low as I can.
PSA: In the video I say I'm getting Crucial Ballistix CL16 RAM, but as pointed out in the pinned comment this is through XMP and the Framework laptop won't support that. Stick to DDR4-3200 that runs on 1.2V and natively supports 3200 MHz without XMP.

Careful with that Crucial Ballistix ram you decided on. That's XMP ram and likely won't actually work at 3200 speed with this laptop, as it does not support XMP. The CL22 RAM is, IMHO, the better option in this case.

Oh, and that Crucial Ballistix stick is 1.35v which is also bad. (You want 1.2v with this laptop)

The default RAM is also 3200, so not sure why it wouldn't work the same? Looks like I need to do more research on that, never configured a laptop with off the shelf parts... I have until October (planned ship date) to figure it out, so there's time 😜 Edit: the Intel product page also lists DDR4 3200 as supported, so I'm a little puzzled now...

@@BitsOfInterest This isn't actually 3200 ram, it's XMP 3200 RAM. It's natively slower (like maybe 2666 or something) with an XMP profile that allows 3200 because the manufacturer tested it to that. Because it's not a native profile, though, it won't work at the XMP speeds in systems that don't use XMP. Believe me, I know from experience making this mistake before.

@@BitsOfInterest Here's a forum thread in the community forums where a user tested basically this same Crucial Ballistix ram and confirmed it only runs at 2667 on this laptop: community.frame.work/t/memory-support-specs/2277/8

@@lensref I see now that it's all related. JEDEC spec is 3200 1.2V, so 1.35 is XMP. Building desktops for years I never considered laptops may not support XMP. Thanks for the tip!👍 Saves me a return to get the right memory.

I've got one of these on pre-order, I'm excited for the expected October shipment!

Thanks. I live in England, so I have to wait until they will make one for me. I'm looking forward to being able to buy one. I'm currently using an old laptop, a Toshiba. 🙂🇬🇧

Thanks for watching 😁👍 I'd imagine that once they get caught up with the preorders the UK would be one of the first countries outside North America to get it. They only need to send you a different power cord and you're good to go. 😉

@@BitsOfInterest Thank you. I now have my Framework laptop, and I'm enjoying using it. It is very good how I am able to swap ports. And change different parts in the future. 😊

10:31 you can actually charge it straight from the usb c expansion card connector if you are really in a pinch

The charger cable is angled though, not sure you can get it in there. Maybe with an extension...

Don't know much about this, that's why I'm asking. Does every one month comes a new batch? Like batch 3 on september, 4th one on october, 5th on november for example.

I'm not in the company but it looks like it for now. Maybe if they get more orders and more money they'll increase the frequency or make it available on order.

Can you test installing Linux on it? And how it runs on it
@BitsOfInterest

Thanks for your suggestion. Only problem is that I have zero experience with Linux and have no idea how to make it work or if it's performing better or worse than on other HW. That said, it's just an OS, so I can't come up with a reason why it wouldn't run on the Framework laptop? Any laptop with similar components would perform similarly?
