I just finished building mine this past weekend, but with sight differences. The thickness of the boxes were all 3/4 in only, with routed out space for 1/4 in panels for the same shaker style look (without the inner trim). I also added that same design on the outer sides for the top and bottom. Leg doors both open from the front, they have adjustable shelving inside, and also open via that magnet spring mechanism that i painted white. I didn't make a bottom base though. The top had the same hinges, but i didn't add the drawer slide as I cut an 1/8 from the bottom of the door so it would open normally (as the top box overall was a standalone box too). I added an additional piece of trim under the crown molding (continuous squares) for more character. The top of the fireplace is 1 3/8" thick and I stained it Dark Walnut so it stands out. I edge banded all the plywood sides so the white paint would be uniform. Mine had to fit within a particular width so I worked out my dimensions & cut list from the top down, also accounting for an electric heater that fits in between the legs. I already filled it all up with alcohol and drink ware, so it's our mini bar. Thanks for the inspiration man. I would post pictures, but they're only posted on my IG. 2hawt4space.

EXCELLENT Vid, and even better build; Fast, no spin, and just good ole fashioned do-it!! Props man! Great work, and really appreciate the footage- music. . . ya, you already heard. It was ok, but a bit much at times. I'm not sure where to find the woodworking Instructions link, I don't see an "about tab" on this page. We are having a gas insert put in in a few weeks, removing an old wood burner, and need to get serious about fireplace hearth/surround/mantle and wall design for/prior to TV and need sneaky ways to cleanly wire and hide cable box, dvd, surround/center channel speaker. thanks for some great training, & insights!!.

This is amazing! Your vision and engineering are second to none....and yes folks it definitely was a challenge .......but faced with this scratch build or assembly of a flatpack faux fireplace that comes in 4 boxes with a massive bag of hardware...tiny tube of glue and 1 sheet of instructions you need a microscope to discover are written in Cantonese.....I think I'd at least give this a TRY! I was thinking of doying something similar, but since I don't have fancy tools and a workshop I plan on using ready-made IKEA cabinets. I will use the METOD kitchen cabinets (the wall mounted kind with smaller depth) to build a frame around the electric fireplace, then use some MDF to create the rest (decorative dividers, a base and a mantle). My design uses two 40 x 40 cm cabinets for the upper corners, two 40 x 60 cm cabinets for the sides, an 80 x 60 cm cabinet for the actual fireplace and a middle cabinet of 80 x 40 cm above that. The cabinets will be covered with the SAVEDAL white doors which I will modify by adding some trim. Side doors will open symmetrically outward, while the top middle door will be horizontal and open down. Initially I wanted to use it as a hidden bar, but I already have a globe bar so it will now act as a livingroom commode for fancy plateware, silverware, glasses and maybe some extra bottles of spirits.
@WatchMeDIYIt7 жыл бұрын
Silverback Gorrilla that sounds dope! Let me know when you finish building it!
@descoiatorul7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm still designing it, though. I have since modified the design to simplify my work and reduce costs (bigger cabinets cost less than several small ones for the same volume). I have also taken inspiration from your design and decided to turn the side cabinets sideways to create varying depths in the front and also to allow for some decorative sculptures on the sides of the "pillar" cabinets. The sculptures I will do myself on slabs of unglazed white clay, to simulate stone, which I plan on attaching to the cabinets through hooks (because they will be heavy and glue will not hold). I plan to do an Art Deco interpretation of some Mayan relief carvings in Palenque, because I love both Maya and Art Deco designs :))

Nice build. I would have liked seeing the finished product. I know you said it was 'finished' but it isn't finished until you place the faux fire insert and turn it on. Did you paint the firebox inside black? Or Did you place peel n stick faux bricks inside? Did you mention that heat cannot be used with this faux fireplace because of fire risk? Or did you think of a fireproof way of using heat? How did you make it a focal area that you children would use as such without a faux fire or faux heat?

Hi Mario, This is THE BEST DIY fireplace video I’ve seen! (And believe me when I say, I’ve done tons of searches!) I’ve subscribed to your channel and really enjoy your well presented videos. I’m a single Mum & my sons are super eager to help me make your fireplace. Only problem is, I’d dearly appreciate it if you could please, give me a list of how many pieces I’d need, and what size the pieces are? My hardware store is fantastic & will help me by cutting all the wood to size, as I’m unable to get the machinery to do that. I’d honestly appreciate your help with this? Thank you 😊

Awesome! I've been wanting a faux fireplace for a long time. I've been thinking and thinking 💭 about how I can do it without TOTALLY starting from Scratch like you did {I'd love to but I don't have the fancy equipment as far as saws, etc... And my back is really bad so I can't do the whole "up down up down" thing using just a regular circular saw soooo.... I came up with the idea of starting off with an old wooden twin size headboard as far as the main frame goes, then I can just take it from there. Now, I'd LOVE to find one with "bulky" legs {since I want it to actually stand out a little ways from the wall so that I can put one of those staggered, 3 rows high candle holder things so that I can burn candles in it, where I can still have the pretty "fire"...... PLUS a place to hang my stocking collection AND a MANTLE {yassss, my favorite part lol}. And I don't want JUST a mantle because to ME, it would just look like a shelf on the wall. ANYHOO, I THINK we have a set of old bunk beds out in our storage building and I'm pretty sure the headboards are still in tact. {we've used the wood SLATS for SEVERAL different projects but the hubby said he's pretty sure that the headboards were still in tact. They aren't the "BULKY size" that I wanted, but if we screw 2 together {since we will be caulking and whatever else I decide to do along the way in addition to the paint} I can get the thickness that I'm wanting and still use the idea I had of using a headboard as a starting point! {PLUSSSSS, IT'S MOSTLY FREEEEE! and I'm cheap lol} however, you gave me an AWESOME idea of having at least ONE hidden compartment for "whatever I think I wanna hide from people lol"! The hubby is gonna LOVE that part! Lol 😂 he's an EXCELLENT carpenter because his entire adult life, he's done everything from doing ac/heating (30+yrs), framework, bricks, windows, carpet, tile, YOU NAME IT, HE'S DONE IT! But this is MY project (mainly lol) so I just need him for any heavy lifting, or for any guidance along the way as far as "he may know of the best way to do something other than probably how my girlyfied mind would do it! I'm an EXTRA SUPER GIRLY GIRL, however, I have AND LOVEEEE tools! Lol. Home Depot, Lowe's, etc... are my favorite stores! Lol. I don't even know why. Hehe. ANYHOO, I enjoyed your video. TFS!

I have two old big speakers from an old school stereo in storage that i have been holding on to. I might try to make them into the sides of the fireplace and figure out the top part somehow. It occurred to me that maybe i can use them while watching this and seeing how it reminded me of the way my speakers kind of look. I wonder if i can make this happen?!
