@@wesrobinson7366 if you get it sanded well the first time it hides the lines. How did you cut the crown molding laying down on the chop saw. I thought it had to be upside down and backwards. Love the video.
@TMPK3 жыл бұрын
I still haven’t made a how to crown mold video but cutting it flat is just another way. You’re ending up with the same cut but you’re beveling the saw and turning the miter. That’s a compound cut. If the room has all 45° corners you set the saw once and never move it again. You only flip the crown on its back or face. There’s also different types of crown, one sits on the wall and ceiling at 45° and one sits at 38°, pretty weird but that means different angles for each kind.

Thanks! That’s a tough one to explain in text. I would recommend searching “how to cut crown molding on mitre box” or something like that. There’s an “upside down & backwards” method for those who don’t have the compound angle saw. You would set the crown, upside down the way it would be sitting as if your box was the ceiling/wall corner, then simply cut it on a 45° angle

thanks! I always build the mantel specific to what size the wall and fireplace are. I normally like 6 inches from the fireplace box to the legs and 12 inches from the top of the fireplace box to the bottom of the mantel. And if the legs are 10 inch wide, I would make the part below the crown also 10 inches. The top is normally 2 inch thick and goes 5 inch each way off the left and right, and 5 inches off the front. But I guess that depends on crown size. I use a 5 1/4 crown. I’m sure someone online has similar plans if you need them, but it’s mostly a freestyle every time.
