hi, nice work. i always hook the wires under the screw so that they are facing clockwise so they tighten under the screw and come together and not apart.

Confusing that you installed the plate before inserting the fixture’s screws. You skipped that part on the video.

Chanel locks are a brand name. The tool used is a wire stripper

@@cmnr8487 it’s not though. The tool associated with the channel lock name is tongue and groove pliers. Not a wire stripper. Vice grips is a brand name associated with locking pliers. If you call a Philips screw driver vice grips you would be equally wrong

At 3:04 the ground wires hooks should face clockwise so when the nut is tightened the wires wrap themselves on the screwhead.

The mounting screws that came with the fixture are too long and the base of the fixture wont sit flush against the ceiling. The ceiling box ring blocks the mounting screws from going any further in. I don't know if this makes sense, but I am beyond frustrated. Never had this problem.

Erik Iversen I have had to use other screw before. Usually longer ones. Is the metal plate from fixture lining up with box. Can you use one of the slots for the screw instead of hole. It has to go into ceiling box in the two holes available but the hole in the plate is more variable. Feel free to email me [e-mail]

So enlightened, what you are saying is: the "shepherd's hooks" of the ground wire loops should be wrapping from the bottom and coming around the top of the screw, so that when the green screw is tightened it tightens the shepherd's hooks as well? That makes a lot of sense. Thank you for clarifying this. And thank you Beth for your informative video.

Have 60's light fixture and it use only white wire. the wire from wall is white and is connected to fixture. Black is cap and not use at all.

What’s the purpose of the ground wire. Can we install the fixture w/ o it ?

THe ground wire essentially ground the electrical system to limit shocks. Not all home have ground wires. Within every rubber coated line that travels throughout the house, there are smaller wires. Typically a black, white and copper (ground). Older homes may not have one. Look at the directions for your particular fixtures about proper grounding. If house has no ground wire, you can attach fixture ground to the green screw on the mounting hardware. Hope that helped. Harder to explain without seeing your set up

I did move the box myself. I did not show it because of my insurance as business owner covers teaching others how to change fixtures, not teaching people how to rewire homes. I stuck to limit of my insurance. I have rewired many things in my own home with great success and added circuits as well.
