Do you connect both ground wires together? There is one in the wall and one on the lamp.... also, if you have a double sconce with two white and two black do you just connect all three whites and all three black wires?

Hello & help!!!!.:. While installing a new bathroom light fixture I lost power in the laundry and hallway.. 😞 I checked the power box, all the breakers are on. Obviously I finished installation of the fixture and it doesn’t turn on although the outlet in the bathroom is working. What’s going on???

The box in my wall doesn't have those 2 brackets, only the circular plate. My shoddy builder installed a 3-light, heavy vanity light that I'd bought, and it was sagging. Is this why? The absence of those 2 brackets? I bought a 2-light, less 'weighty' fixture this time and plan on installing it myself. I'm hoping it doesn't sag.

I have a black, white, and RED wire coming out of the wall box, as well as a ground wire. The old fixture had a built in outlet.... is that what the red would have gone to? Should I just cap the red off since the new light doesn't have that?

The wires coming from the wall have two white and two black, but the fixture has only one white and one black wire. Do I put all three black together in one nut, or do I attach just one black from the wall with the black from the fixture, then the white wires the same way, and cap the extra wires?
@Lonewolf31657 жыл бұрын
If you have 2 Black and 2 white wires from the wall then chances are that they feed to or from another outlet or fixture on the same breaker. In that case just connect the 3 black wires together with the appropriate size wire nut and do the same with the white wires.

Steam punk it.... :0) MAKE SURE you use the correct screw in the correct screw hole.... If you find your mounting screws are too short.. you've probably used them in the wrong part of the set up... see 3:57 Put Green protective sheathing on your exposed Ground wire AND your exposed luminaire Ground wire...

Nic, they have new boxes with tabs that secure to the drywall. I'd recommend looking into one if your code allows it.

do you have any advice for the 'nut or collar' that screws on the ceramic screw to install the globe, or shade. We have managed to screw on all but 1. it seems the ceramic "screw" may have a cut in it and we cant seem to get the nut past that.

Okay so i did all of this and tested the new lights. Everything looks good, except that the light switch in my bathroom wont work. (i flip the switch up and down but nothing happens) the light stays on regardless. What do you think is the cause?
@HomeRepairTutor9 жыл бұрын
So you have constant power going to the light? And didn't change out the switch?
@ajcruzer929 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly.
@HomeRepairTutor9 жыл бұрын
I know this sounds nuts but there's a possibility the switch is broken. If you wired the new light exactly how it was before and the wires are solidly attached then it might not hurt changing out switch. Make sure to take a picture of the existing wiring setup before you remove the wires and always turn off the power. We recently had a switch go bad and that caused lights to flicker!!

Maybe it's regional but I believe what you're calling a sconce is actually the shade. A sconce is a light that usually hangs next to the mirror instead of over the top, or just what a light that hangs on the wall instead of the ceiling is called. It's the name for the entire fixture.
@HomeRepairTutor9 жыл бұрын
No, you're right Amy Mosbacher - it was truly a mistake on my part. I record these videos and edit them at about 4 am. So sometimes my brain is still only half powered up, lol.

Not so easy.. You did not show how one can squeeze his hand into they small globe to get the nut screwed up that hold the globe...PLEASE show that.
@retroryan8383 жыл бұрын
Why did you replace it anyway? The old light looks fancy and looks high value. The new light has a sad color and looks tacky. People today don’t make sense anymore. I still have original and older lights throughout my house and they work fine. I hope this weird phase of new tacky things ends soon.
