Honestly, and this is not hype, this video is more helpful than my tractor manufacturer's videos AND manuals combined! Those are the exact words I used (@#!$%) while trying to remove my own green PTO shaft shield. So much so, I thought, surely there must have been a recall and a replacement part issued. Instead the dealer (I’m pretty sure we have the same chipper) referred me to your video! I had tried everything: Just as you did, I tried rotating it working one screwdriver; inserting 3 separate screwdrivers while working one and pulling on the shield with the other; ditto, but this time twisting instead of turning; enlisting my wife to “man” the other two screwdrivers with me on the 3rd and pulling; then her pulling…. The result? The (@#!$%) thing has been sitting on my workbench for two weeks, shielded and undefeated. Every couple of days I get up enough confidence to try again, only to be vanquished from my own workshop! If you weren’t half a continent away I’d ask if you made house calls. However, armed with your video and the knowledge those end shields indeed do come off, and by way of a pulling force and not twisting motion, I’ll try again. (Gulp.) Finally, like another viewer noted, thank you for mentioning the needle attachment for grease gun. I had never heard of such a thing and just assumed the plastic “nipples” were further evidence of Chinese engineering prowess…. Best. Joe

Perfect instructions; my PTO shaft is now clean and happy. Question for you--my PTO shaft does not appear to have shear bolts. It does have split pins at each end, connecting the U-joint to the shaft. Are those split pins possibly designed to function as shear pins? Thanks much!
@DIYMyWay2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it, Bianca! No, from your description those pins aren’t shear pins. If this shaft is for your flail mower, it may not have a shear pin because your flail mower may have a slip clutch or has a belt drive that can supply the slippage needed to protect your tractor’s PTO.

Hi,I've been subscribed for a while now, and have a question. But first off I want to say how much I love details in your videos ie the high quality sound and the music. You must be a musician or in the entertainment world. My question is about the pin on my pto coupler fell out and I can't figure out how to get it back in. Should I just buy another coupler end?
@DIYMyWay2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary! Thank you for be a subscriber and for the encouraging words. While I do play guitar and piano, I’m not a professional musician or in the entertainment world. I’m assuming you are talking about the pin you push to release the coupler from the PTO shaft. If so, there should have been a spring that went with it. If you don’t have the spring for it then you might as well buy a replacement coupler end. If you do have the spring then it’s a matter of finding out how the pin is retained. Could be a spring clip or another pin that goes in perpendicularly to the release pin. I’d really have to see it to figure it out. I’m elsewhere on the planet right now and can’t look at mine to be of further help. When I get home I’ll try to remember to check mine to see I if I can help. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the video. I’m sorry I don’t share the same 5 star opinion given in most of the comments. I came hear looking for information on what to do if it’s not great! Your video: the shroud looks great, move on; the inner pto shaft is clean, move on. I want to know what to do if it’s not nice and clean. Please include that next time. Take my $0.10 in ad revenue…

Any idea why on a compact tiller the shaft rear safety tube s hook has bent and came loose twice? Hasn't broke plastic eye on tube and rotating by hand in neutral there is no binding

Hi 002! That is a mystery indeed! The only thing I can think of is part of the chain might have gotten caught by the universal joint of the shaft and yanked the s hook out. BTW, just 005 more and you’ll be 007!

What type of grease? And what kind of oil and oil dispenser did you use? Took tractor over for an Ill family member so I know it’s a rookie question
@DIYMyWay Жыл бұрын
I used Lucas Red N Tacky grease. The oil was a light weight machine oil like 3-in-1 and the dispenser was my dad’s old oiler dating back to the 50’s or 60’s. Thanks for watching!

@@DIYMyWay thanks for those details. Great video. I was able to do the full maintenance on an L3301 based on that video. Much appreciated since my FIL got sick he could not operate his tractor. Had to learn quickly and this helped a lot.

What are your thoughts on using silicone or graphite spray on the telescoping parts of the shaft instead of Lucas grease? Thanks!

I have never heard of anything other than grease used for lubricating PTO shafts so I’m sticking with grease. Thanks for watching!

How you clean the INSIDE of the female side of the shaft?
@DIYMyWay6 ай бұрын
Perhaps with a shotgun cleaning kit. Thanks for watching!
