Great video Courtney! The 3 holes on the tractor are more important if your tractor is equipped with draft control. Ask Tractor Mike did a good video on how changing the top link in the three holes affects the sensitivity of the draft control mechanism. If your tractor is NOT equipped with draft control, then the 3 positions simply affect the angular characteristics of the implement when raised and lowered as you stated.

For hooking up implements without a quick hitch sometimes the best thing to hook up first is your top link once you hook up your top link you can adjust in or out and that will move your lower link pins so it makes hooking up your lower pins easier

And if it's something like a rototiller, you can rock it forward and back by moving the tractor a bit to line up the lower pins.

I was hoping to learn something but I'm sure others did. That three point adjuster lower limit on the John Deere reminded me of how hokey the one on the 1025R was. Although the Kubota MX5100 is a more basic tractor the adjustor clamps to steel and does not get out of adjustment as easily.

Great bunch of tips. What I've taken to doing is stopping about a foot short of my implement, hooking up the PTO shaft, then backing in to hook up the lift arms and link. That extra little bit of room makes a lot of difference in trying to get myself between the tractor and implement. One thing I can't figure out is why they have a collar that you have to pull back to slide it forward. You're pulling the sleeve in the opposite direction. I had a Bush Hog 286 about twenty years ago that had a push button release on the tractor end of the driveline. My new Bush Hog has the sleeve. That push button was way easier to deal with. Maybe if I ever have to replace the front u-joint, I'll get a push button yoke too.

Great tips. So far I’ve been blessed with being able to store all my attachments on flat ground, in a covered garage, but I’m running out of space. The best advice I can give is always store your attachments and implements on flat level surfaces, otherwise it can be a nightmare hooking them up.

On my tractor the stop on the 3pt can limit travel up or down. I mostly use it to limit the lift when snowblowing to limit the angles of the PTO shaft yet still clear the ground sufficiently.

another good segment. good advice about connecting the front of the PTO shaft first, then the back. I've struggled to get my brush hog hooked up in the small space the 1026R has. I'm gonna have to try that next time i hook up. I might have to get that PTO link. i went to the web site but wasn't clear if they had a fit for the little JD's. they did for the Kubota. i suppose its the compact system for the less than 40 hp tractors and PTOs

Quick Hitch Tip: Some implements have adjustable 3-point arm pins. Thought my e-hitch did not fit my tiller at first, then noticed that the 3 point pin width was adjustable on the tiller.

Real important tip: be very mindful of raising the implement while the pto is running. In many cases if it’s raised too much, the shaft will start to bind & possibly self destruct. That’s why I have a three point lever stop above the lever & adjust it so I can’t raise the 3 point too high(implement dependent). Some implements it’s not too critical, but with my tiller it’ll bind if I raise it too high.

I had a good friend who lost an uncle to a PTO accident. Old tractor (no fancy sensors) , nobody else around , family found a bloody mess hours later when he didn't come home . Tractor was still running. He apparently got a sleeve caught, tractor didn't care that he was attached.

Well, a problem I have is I bought a 24hp Branson a few years ago with a backhoe...no problems with the hoe, but when it is removed, I cannot use the 3 point for hooking up implements....the problem is the frame for the backhoe which interferes with the side 3 point arms when they are installed. I need a way to use a quick hitch that allows the side arms to bypass the frame. In other words, the side arms will not lift high enough for me to lift a small brushhog, finish mower etc without hitting the frame. Any suggestions of a product welcomed.....I live in East Tennessee.....thanks

Two other tips, don’t forget to grease up the balls on the 3 point hitch as they can get sticky and not want to move well. On the Del Marino PTO hook up, you can easily get the shafts to spin to attach the PTO - BUT - the PTO link makes it SO MUCH easier!

I took all the chains for the plastic shields off awhile back. There's really no reason for them. You can easily stop the plastic shield with your hand and there's less wear on it if it's spinning at the same speed as the shaft. Plus - those plastic zerk fittings are a pain.
