Learn how to make a Bed Frame with DIY Pete's video tutorial and bed frame plans. In this video I build a Queen size bed frame. You can easily modify the bed frame for any sized bed. I used Minwax Semi Gloss Polyurethane to finish and seal the wood.

Very nice job. The only thing I would have done differently is ad quite a few more support slats for the matress. Beds are not just for sleeping on if you know what I mean.

I built a similar bed a few years ago. When it came to adding the top board on the head/foot board I counter sunk the screws and used dowels to hide them instead of the putty. Once the finish went on it added a nice decorative touch. Awesome video!

Hey Pete thanks for the plans on your website! I built the bed and it came out amazing! I opted to go with yellow pine from the big box store. After spending days palm sanding the pickets I decided not to use them. I chose to go with 1”x10” pine boards and installed them vertically versus horizontally. It looks great! My 11 year old didn’t really care for the yellow Pine natural look so we decided to white wash it. I also added some trim and a top cap to the headboard and footboard. I don’t know how to upload pictures but I’d really like to know what you think. Once again thank you very much!

Hey Pete, I just got done building this bed frame and I couldn't be happier. Ended up adjusting the dimensions to turn it into a king sized frame and then used a dark cherry stain to finish it. Thanks for all of the great videos! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.

I’m assuming you just extended the width by 16 inches and that’s all?
@jeffjohansen3458
@jeffjohansen3458 7 жыл бұрын
That is correct. I added 16" to all of the boards that make up the width. I also took some scrap 4x4 and made a couple of mid supports that I attached to the slats, just for a little extra stability in the middle.

I think that you just saved me at least a grand by watching your video, my wife was wanting a bed somewhat similar to that style. Now I can build her an entire bedroom set thanks to your design and tips. Now I need to hurry up and get my workshop built. It's been a long time since I was last in Bozeman, I use to live 10 miles outside of Columbia Falls headed towards Polebridge back in 1986. Kalispell, Whitefish, Hungry Horse Reservoir...just a few of the many places that I use to visit.

Thanks for the great video - easy to follow and I love the design. I'm going to make a bed for me and one for my daughter. Part of my day job is finishing wood - staining, painting, etc. Minwax has developed an oil/water base hybrid poly that is easy to work with. It dries fast, has very little odor, and cures to a very hard finish. My final comment is that although some woods look good without stain, if you have time, I would recommend staining, Use a natural or clear stain if that's the look you want. The stain conditions the wood so it's like an additional coat of finish. It also romances the wood in a way that can't be achieved any other way.

I don't know why you don't have more subs. Very well done. My initial thought was to have the foot board facing the other way but after seeing the finished product, the way you having it better. Keep being awesome!

@DIYPETE 7 жыл бұрын
Hey James! Thanks so much for the kind words and for subscribing. I appreciate it! Yeah I toyed with the idea of changing the directions of the footboards but I think the 2x4 boards looked a little too blocky after asking a few friends. I think if the boxes were made differently and with a thinner board that it would look better. About half my friends liked the more clean look ( like I ended up doing ) and half liked the more rustic / farmhouse look. Thanks so much JAMES!!!! You are the man!

I think this bed is practical and durable. I want to go ahead and try making it. My husband and I want to put the frame up higher in order to accommodate a little storage underneath. If we do this will this weaken the frame? Thanks for taking the time to help others with our diy projects with this wonderful video.
@DIYPETE
@DIYPETE 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bonnie! You can certainly add height to the frame for more storage underneath. I've increased the height of the side rails quite a bit on other projects so I could slide taller totes in from the sides.

I love this bed. A lot nicer than what I can find at stores. Now...any advice for us lacking tools?
@DIYPETE
@DIYPETE 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Sharon! First, see if you could borrow a miter saw, drill etc from a family member or friend. Otherwise, I first got started by finding great deals on used tools at garage sales and on craigslist. Also, if you live in a bigger city there are sometimes co-working spaces for woodworkers --- ( so they have daily or monthly memberships and you get access to all sorts of tools ) - let me know if any of those ideas help at all! Cheers

Hello Pete! Great looking bed frame. really like your video. I am using the Kreg K5 System. Works great. I am going to build this for our bed Room.. Here in Thailand wood is not that plentiful as in the Good old USA. Most of the wood is ceder wood. i have to buy a plainer to smooth out the wood. I also will build a King Size Bed Frame. I am using the same brackets to attach the side rails. I had them sent to me here. I really like them. Thanks.
