I finally finished doing mine but I will tell you this, that little trick with the paper clip was extremely hard. It took the paper clip and a couple little snacks of the hammer in the back for it to release correctly putting it back together was a cake. Thanks.

Thank you so much this video saved me a $750 and gave me some DIY points. A tip for anyone that is having trouble with the tamper proof bolts you can use a Dremel and get a diamond tip and fit it through the space and press it down on the bolt.

Thank you so much for this - garage didn't want to touch the job. Successfully completed though I found it easier to tap the bolts out through the holes at the front with a hammer and screwdriver rather than drilling them out.

Thanks for the time and a great video. I have a MK5 Jetta, similar to this and I did not remove the steering wheel, I just turned the wheel from North to South (180°) and was able to unscrew the T8 or 9 off the control module at the bottom

So, i could not for the life of me get the airbag latches to release! SOOO, found another way. By cutting thr little plastic cover over the screws, I was able to replace the part without removeing the airbag and steering wheel,or the multi function switches. Thats a win in my book.

@DanielRodriguez-yj4cu what part do you need help understanding? Once you have the covers off the steering column, just cut away t.he plastic so you can get to the two bolts, and remove them.

I had this same issue happen while I was in a random part of my city! I have a Compustar remote starter installed in my 16 Passat Trendline (base) and I was able to start the car using the remote starter and everything was normal again after 😅

I tried to head off the key cylinder from the beginning because this is my issue. How to release the key cylinder without able to get in ignition mode, turning the small whole to get the wire straight in? Thank you very much
