I installed the gimbal bearing exact as you showed but now my rod won't come out of the back of the shaft. I tried everything, pulling, I put a plate on the end and tried to slide hammer it off using a 10 lb sledge. Totally baffled and feeling wasted. Everything was going so well up to this point. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

@@MichaelCorcoran-wy6lb Thanks for watching, any update? That’s no fun. It’s very likely that the tool is slightly larger than the inner bearing. This is more common when installing an aftermarket gimbal bearing as opposed to an OEM. In our case, our tool was slightly out of specs which required us to apply additional grease. At this point, since it’s stuck…you will definitely want to install a new gimbal bearing after removing tool. It’s even possible that the bearing will come out stuck to the tool. A few options. 1. Carefully drilling out gimbal bearing to a point where you can create a weak point and pull it out. 2. Use of heat. If deciding to apply heat, just be mindful and careful that you don’t damage any surrounding parts…nor set grease on fire. Keep us posted. 👍🧰

I just replaced my gimble bearing, it was a perma lube , ill never install one again! Id rather grease regularly than put one of these waste of money parts.

@@sweetlou5902 Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, always welcome here on our channel. Nothing wrong at all with the older greasable design. 👍🧰

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders nothing personal, just despise that product, leads people to neglect maintenance in my humble opinion.

@@sweetlou5902 We appreciate the reply, all good thoughts there. We were very impressed on how many years our old standard greasable bearing lasted. 😁👍

Out of curiosity, how often should you change the non greasable bearing? Do you go by hours? Or wait for it to kick out (doubtful, but ya never know. Lol).

@@pushintheenvelope Good morning ☕️ great question. We replace it each time we remove outdrive and replace bellows. For us…we like replacing it when the outdrive is completely removed from transom…it’s a very cost friendly part and we have the tools to pull the old one out and drive a new one in. Personal preference at the end of the day however that has been our approach over the years.
