thank you so much for these. I work at a family owned boat yard and most of my work involves gathering valuable parts for ebay. There's so many junky lowers laying around, some quite valuable, that can be broken down for parts. Unfortunately, the mechanics just don't have time to really show me. But these videos are so awesome for a beginner's perspective. I'm gonna ask boss if he will let me start taking these apart and hopefully start rebuilding them too one day.

Great video! I’m getting ready to replace the drive shaft housing oil seals (alpha one gen two) but not sure which way the oil seals face. They are identical, have one flush side and the other side is open with a spring inside. I would love some insight. Thank you.

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. The Bravo should be positioned the same way as the alpha however for a 100% certain answer, we recommend referring to your service manual. Please keep us posted on your DIY project, we love talking boats!!! 😎👍

I'm just what the cost savings is to rebuild the upper and lower as. You have done vs just buying and entire SEI Stern drive and installation kit? I have an R drive (alpha 1 gen 1) and I can't really see it being that much difference in overall cost.

Thanks for watching & we appreciate you reaching out to us. We are drinking our morning coffee answering any and all questions for the DIY community. We spent roughly $1,500.00 when all said & done. For us, we performed a full factory rebuild which included all gears, bearings, shafts, seals, & more. In your case, you may open up your units & see that all gears, bearings, & shafts are still in great condition. That would lower the cost by roughly $1,000.00. This would allow you to replace all seals & not have to tinker with any shims nor setting/pressing new carriers. On the opposite end, you may open up the units & find that its in really bad shape...unlikely...but possible...leading you to entertain the SEI replacement route. Personal preference in the end & we are looking forward to hearing back from you. We DIYers need to stick together!!! 😎👍

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Appreciate the response. My thoughts on work like this is, "I might as well replace it all while I'm in there". My stern drive is as old as the boat (1984) so I'll probably replace it and be done. Then either sell the old drive or rebuild it then sell it or have a spare. Either way, I appreciate the videos. Extremely detailed and informative.
