@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Got er done! Top slotted hole on the alternator had to be enlarged because the bolt wouldn't go through it. Had some trouble trying to get the electrical plug off first and then back in the new alternator ( operator error ). Had a time trying to get belt back on because there wasn't enough room to get the ratchet and socket on the belt tensioner pulley nut but we finally got it. Thanks again for posting a great video. Best of luck!!!

Mike - my son and i finished it tonight. Took about 3+ hours, but given that he nor I are not repair geeks, we were both pleased with the job. The best line of the night was when my son said "Hm, that wasn't too bad." after we finished up. It was time well spent together. Though we ran into a couple of sticky spots and had to back up to get things aligned, it seems to be a success so far. More importantly, we wouldn't have been able to do this project without your video. Thanks again for putting this together and showing us the way!

Thank you for this very informative video! I'm not sure if the bottom part needs to come out though, if you only wish to recplace the alternator. I'm actually looking (right now) to get that bottom piece out, because it's in my way of tightening the timing belt by rotating the waterpump. Those bolt at the back are very tight though. I don't succeed in breaking them loose with so little room to work. Dang. For me, the hardest part of working on a car is breaking the bolts loose.

had to get a jump let it run for awhile turned the engine off then tried to restart to no avail do you think it might be a bad alternator this is the first time this has happened
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
William Lucas hey there thanks for checking out the video. How old is your battery? If you don't have a volt meter to test your battery, You can take your battery out of the car and temporarily put it in another car....then jump start that car and see if the alternator charges the battery....let it run for 20 minutes then turn car off to see if you can start car again. If car starts, then your battery is good and you'll need a New alternator If the car doesn't start, this will be a verification that the battery is refusing to accept the charge from either alternator and will need to be replaced. Keep me posted! Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome thanks again 👍

I replaced my alternator but my car sti wont crank all the way
@DIYwithMichaelBorders5 жыл бұрын
curtis cooke Thanks for watching & we hope the video helped. If your Alternator failed, it drained all power to your Battery. We recommend using jumper cables & jumping your car. Once engine starts...take it for a 30 minute drive. This will allow the new Alternator to fully charge your Battery. 😁 We really enjoy making these helpful videos for our fellow DIY’ers. Many more helpful videos to come! 😀 Let us know if you have any questions. Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your KZbin notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩

Are these vehicle good?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
HP11208 Thanks for checking out the video. Unfortunately this car has some bad reviews from people. We like this vehicle due to its gas mileage and low cost. The biggest complaint of this car is the timing belt. When designing this vehicle in 2007, GM chose to convert a steel part of the timing belt system and made it plastic. Unfortunately do to the plastic part obviously not as strong as steel, people were running into timing belt failures...However the belt was still good and wasn’t breaking, it was that part failing and allowing the good belt to slide off. Some people are much harder on cars than others...I never slam on the gas pedal and go 0-80mph in seconds like some people do haha...at least not in the AVEO 😎...so we never ran into this issue. They are affordable cars however have a bad reviews due to this. Hope this helps. Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your KZbin notifications that would be awesome thanks again 😎👍

the connector on the alternator the one with four pins keeps loosen and the battery light doesnt come on when switching on key what to do?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. You might need to go to the dealer and purchase a new connection point that will stay connected. In the past, I have seen shops use electrical tape to secure it however thats your call. You mention the battery light not turning on after turning the key....is your car starting? If so have you run into any non-normal behavior with the car?

Hey Michael, I've a question i wanted to put 185/70 r14 tyre size in my chevy Aveo, i know this question is out of topic but can you please give your suggestion?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders4 жыл бұрын
Just came in Basics Thanks for watching & great question. I’m guessing this Switch is for different wheels that you’re putting on. I’m guessing it would be fine however before moving forward, we recommend contacting your local Chevy Dealership & providing them with the last 8 digits of your VIN #. This will allow them to look up your exact vehicle to get the answer you’re looking for. Keep us posted! 😎👍🔧🔩

After changing the alternator we started the car to check if it worked and it cranked but the car died.. we just replaced the battery.. so it’s not that... we did check if the battery is good as well as connections.. When we were taking out the alternator it sparked becauz we forgot to disconnect the battery.. now we did unplug and plug back in and still does the same... help? Lol
