DJ 1997 - Jesus Loves UK Garage

Jesus Loves... is my new mix series dedicated to the various music genres and time periods.
The concept is clearly inspired by the legendary Todd Edwards 2003 DJ set at 4by4 party in Romford, UK (that's where he was wearing that Jesus Loves UK Garage t-shirt). That video is here: • Todd Edwards Historic ...
And the first edition of the Jesus Loves series is dedicated to UK Garage and the year 1997. 1997 is somewhere in the middle of UK Garage history, when you still can hear the roots of UK Garage music (that is US Garage music) in the production. So, all the records are from 1997 and from UK except one that is 1994 and it is from US - it is Todd Edwards record: The Sample Choir - Feelin' Lonely (Nervous records). I will definitely record a 1994 UKG mix one day, as well as 1999 UKG one. But for the second installment of Jesus Loves... i am preparing an American special... Keep ur eyes peeled!! 👀

I remember raving in Toronto in the late 90's and several friends and I were roaming the streets prior to the parties we'd attend. Many afternoons and evenings spent with headphones on and speed garage playing in our ears, dancing while walking in the streets together.

London Pressure...Frog & Nightgown, Scribbles & Freek Fm,, South to North and across the city, the enthusiasm palpable, the abandonment to music on the dancefloor was infectious and spread very fast after coalescing from the early 90's. I had test presses of some of the big tracks, you knew, from the first few bars that they would cause excitement. It needs to be said that London was and had been saturated with pirate radio, where shows would vary enormously from hour to hour, Soca followed Jazz Funk, then Hip Hop and so on, each genre was represented in its superlative form, thus the tracks played were composed by highly competent if not esteemed musicians, their knowledge of, and feel for musical systems was what imbued their work and was absorbed by those that heard their work, thus feeding into the subconscious of those who then made the London Garage tracks, same with Jungle and Tech House....big up Croydon.
