Not necessarily. You hire a trusted person to take care of it for you. All it takes is a lawyer to break contracts down to you in a 1hr meeting. And hire a financial advisor particularly one more experienced in your field, in this case entertainment. Ask for advice and ask questions. These celebrities ain’t handling they own business. Not even Kanye or jay z they got a team for that. They team just give them the run down and they make decisions from there

Ak didn’t really explain this well let me break it down: Imagine Future’s catalog as a stock. The publishing company bought Future’s music for X amount of dollars. The company fronts future the amount they think it’s worth today in hopes that the catalog appreciates in value later down the line. The publishing company makes money off of the catalog. (Movies, streaming, advertising, sampling) in the end the publishing company hopes to make way more money in the long run. So if they fronted future 60 million we can assume they are hoping to recoup that plus an extra 50 million in the next 5-10 years. This is pretty low risk for Future because he gets a big pay day today so he can invest that money now instead of waiting a decade. Future is getting older so he is leveraging his age as well. He knows he only has a good 5 years remaining to sell this dope boy trapper image. Future is almost 40. W.

Future probably owns at least 80% of his masters if not more so if you take income along the millions he was already making off of his publishing then add 75 mil to that off him just selling it, now he’ll own all of the publishing moving forward like his latest album, he’s seeing the benefits from all of that on top of the advances he’s going to get from Epic for future releases. Future now understands he’ll need to build a new catalog essentially cause he’ll want another big pay day like this one in the future which means it’s good for his fans because he’s gonna flood the market a lot like he did back in 2015. He still owns his rights, he’ll still get paid regardless because he writes all of his music. this new company will need to make their money back so futures music may appear in places it hasn’t before which means new ears & eyes which is win win. It’s a great move all around for both parties

These deals where a company buys your catalog is like the lottery. When you win the lottery you can get a upfront cash amount or you can wait the 20 years and get the entire amount minus taxes. Most people take the upfront money because they minimize the risk of not getting their money over the 20 years. Most people take the upfront money because they don’t dont wanna wait. The music industry is changing and this is one for the few ways artist can still make money from their music.

Flooding the market has worked so well for artists like Future, Youngboy, Da Baby, Lil Baby, etc. But then people say that oversaturation was Fetty Wap's downfall, so what happened?
@DondreDashard

Fetty just became inconsistent after his initial big run and couldn’t get back on due to rappers like Uzi, Yachty, 21 Savage, YoungBoy coming into the scene. He got overshadowed basically

Fetty just ain’t have it like that. Over saturation ain’t a problem if people wanna hear it.

Labels are smart. They’re buying the artists peak prime of their career. Yes you can release more tapes after that but those older albums have a golden touch that can’t be felt again
