DJ Akademiks talked about the controversial statement made by Kanye West that he created musical styles of artists such as Drake, Young Thug, The Weeknd, Future, and Travis Scott. Kanye was early as far as mainstream artists go, but late to the wave that birthed what we have now. He 100% got the new ag I'me, melodic, dark sounding aesthetic/mixing style from Travis Scott. Future was also right there timing wise with the over mixed & distorted spacey vibes. Kanye signed Travis as a producer and immediately had him touch almost every record on 808s & Heartbreak production wise, which was Ye's first project where he introduced his new sound (not just simple auto tune). Future & even Young Thug very shortly after came with their own version of the spacey, new-age aesthetics...but the sinister & demonic vibes 100% came from Travis. Kanye had a more colorful version of it, which in hindsight seems like Travis also created just for Kanye. To add to it, if you wanna go even further back Travis said he got most his inspiration from Cudi who was the first of his kind as well as far as playing outside the conventional box aestheticly. Overall If you really know, then you know that Travis' album "Days Before Rodeo" is the original source of all these new types of Hip-Hop. And if you really wanna pinpoint a song, I'd say "Sky Fall" was the first song that really changed it all. The engineers name was Alex I believe who also was a genius behind it. The BTS video itself of them making/mixing that record is an artifact that should be used in academia & studied for years to come 💯
