This comes natural to most people after DJ'ing for a while, but excellent tip for beginners. These days I can generally tell by how fast they go off beat how far I need to move the pitch up or down. Love your video's though bud.

Basically if you have to nudge to the right then you need to slow down your track (or push up on the pitch) if you have to nudge to the left then you need to speed up your track (or push down on your pitch). Great video!!

This is how I'm teaching myself. I look away from everything so I do it by ear. Sometimes it takes me so long but its worth learning. Sometimes if I'm only slightly out and I'm in the mix I just keep nudging.

i use this technique all the time, find it alot easier than moving the pitch slide up and down on its own if you get me, great video btw :)

I'm a DJ at a german Webradio and some of the others told me to try out "pitch-riding", well i did and it's really great. It's effective and fast, maybe you could do a Video about this and spread the technique :) Maybe it's a better way to get tunes in the same Speed, that are way faster or slower than others, than "move and nudge" is still available for the fine-tuning :)
@rwood19959 жыл бұрын
So you are chasing the beat??? I'm trying to do this myself on the same setup you have because I never did really master vinyl before it went away !!! Covering the display makes so much sense if you really want to learn

You can do it if You want, not a bad idea. If the player can quantize, then it's easier. When You get more experienced, You'll be able to beatmatch the tunes in about 2 or 3 bars, so You will beatmatch tunes instantly. That's my experience, and I don't have CDJs, but SL1200MKIIs (vinyl). Just practice as much as You can.
@wreckx508 жыл бұрын
thank you for the knowledge with all the videos! personally I prefer using turntables since nudging with turntables just feels a bit more accurate (with different nudge strengths you apply to the records). pretty new to CDJ's though so hopefully could master both!

I love this method. However, on the deck you were using the adjustments, wouldn't it be more efficient to use the cue button to reset the track to the last cuepoint set, instead of the play/pause?
@selondonwat11 жыл бұрын
its exactly the same principle, instead of slowing down or speeding up the jogwheel (nudging) u slow down the vinyl by applying peasure to the platter or speeding the platter up.

But with this method are you not starting the track at the right moment? Although the beats are matched up...
@rebecca_stone2 жыл бұрын
I always always wondered about this too. But the idea is that once your two tracks are at the correct matching speed, you take your second track back to the beginning, use the first few bars to get the beats playing in the right time, then do your transition.
@djantonio725 жыл бұрын
Great video I love it. But wouldn't you agree that even though it was off by that little on the beat counters that it was still ok and perfect? I mix alot of house and progressive house and always do the same ignore the counters and mix by ear and alot of times it's off by a bit which tells me that the beat counters are not accurate and shouldn't be trusted by any DJ. Kind of like the sync button in an oh sh** situation which I don't like either. I also love how you don't use earphones it's awesome. I first saw this in Toronto Canada back in the early 90s at a record shop. The guy was mixing new records without headphones. So I started doing it too to test my ears for mixing. Thanks again. Greetings from Cleveland Ohio.

That's how I do it. I most of the time move the pitch fader roughly to the tempo of the other track, whilst listening to a track on my 1000 mk3 (before cuing). *edit: I also cover my screen with paper CD sleeve😂

I've been messing around with Virtual DJ and mixing some soca, hip hop and other songs.. and I really do feel like I'm cheating when I increase/decrease the pitch so I find my self finding parts in the song that match beats already and racing to get them to mix... is this completely wrong ?

Ive watched a few videos and this technique seems popular. I dont understand what the nudge is actually doing. I dont have a CDJ or turntable to try this out yet nor have I had the opportunity before. I would be grateful if someone could explain what the nudge is doing in a way I can understand without using the equipment. Thanks.
@davidbrooks273310 жыл бұрын
Willem Beltman Thanks for the tip! I've been trying it out in virtual DJ and I think I get how it works now. So basically if the beat is matched up but one track is slightly behind (or ahead) where the other is, you just nudge it forward a bit to get it in sync. Definitely seems like the kind of thing that would be easier to get a feel for on an actual piece of equipment rather than software. But virtual DJ at least shows you how it works. Again, thanks for the advice.

'Seamus' (Given) is pronounced Shaymus - another unpronouncable Irish name! PS: I'm Irish🙂 Also: I always move the pitch fader right to the bottom so you can be fairly certain the incoming track is too fast and know which direction to start moving for ther match🙂

It's a matter of preference, I've tried both, starting out with digital DJing using a controller similar to the Traktor S4 and moving on to CDJ 2000's & a DJM 800 mixer. For me the craft of DJing is way too much fun to give up for a controller, you're basically just a human iPod player with a controller. Also most (if not all) clubs as of today use the CDJ2000's (or nexus) with a DJM900/2000 so if you plan on playing at clubs go for CDJ's.
@markalexwhite2 жыл бұрын
It's now 2022 - what's the difference between a CDJ with a USB stick plugged in and a controller? Surely all the moves, techniques and skills are the exact same?
@michielinks17218 жыл бұрын
why wouldnt you just set both tracks to 118 que then then adjust the jog wheel??

there's no such thing as "better". it's just different mixers with different features. you, as a DJ, should be able to mix on anything (even though some low budget CDJs are horrible and should never be used for live performances). as long as you can cue up one track, and hear the other one in a monitor.. (so u won't have any delay)… that's all u need.

Mixing on cd decks is a piece of piss compared to mixing on vinyl decks, it shows you which bpm to put it in, thats cheating in my eyes, theres no talent in that at all,.its annoying when i see djs mixing on cd decks thinking there well good, try doing that on vinyl decks mate.

in my dj school this is the method we use , and the time we should beatmatchh 100 percent a song into the other is 30 seconds , we all do it under 30 i did at 20 , it takes you forever to beatmatch this song dude . i totally respect you and ur years as a dj but im 15 and i can do this better

anyways dude he is not telling to you all the secrets , beatmatching at this method like playing and stoping the song and moving the pitch it would take forever , i use the move n nudge since i play the track and do this all the time by moving the pitch bigger at start and then making it smaller as close as i get srry for english doe
@joeletrambleur52679 жыл бұрын
+Hider Valteri Hi there, can you give more details on your technique and how it's different from his "stop and go" technique? Thanks, I would like to be able to beatmatch in under 30 seconds as well.
