In a special edition of “The Beat” Ari Melber speaks with hosts from Hot 97, the no. 1 hip hop radio in New York. Ebro Darden debate the biggest stories in politics and hip hop, including Trump’s obsession with rap artists and how hip hop music responds to American issues like gun violence and criminal justice. Ebro breaks down the controversy surrounding NFL players kneeling during the national album, noting the acceptance of black men using “their bodies to entertain" but not to advocate for their communities.

Ari is really on to something, with regards to the way he’s been positioning his show. I️ see some serious inherent value in the way he connects news to Culture. This is going to be a valuable platform.

Too bad Ari's such a corporate toad. He could be having Bernie supporters on, or perhaps digging up some 'entertainers' who support Sanders. It's fine to be against Trump; who in their right mind isn't? But to run cover for a corporate toad guy like Biden to take his place? To shill for Biden, as is said? We have come too far to let this kind of ignorance go unchallenged. I'm glad that he turned me onto Bambino...who reminds me of my boyfriend but hey, that's not going to increase the minimum wage to $15/hour. Or get us good quality health care and education for all Americans. As America goes, so goes the world and in Canada you can see how the corporate Liberal toads ignore Indigenous rights and plow their pipelines down everyone's throats. The exploit workers for the benefit of the rich and the rest of us can just go die. No, this will not stand, comrades.

RHOgu4 Not "going to"... It "is"! We don't usually have someone in mainstream news give us a platform this big so what we do with it is crucial! Shout out to Ari, at first I thought Culture Vulture but his consistency is flawless. #Respect. Shout out to Ebro for the crucial corrections about minorities.

they don't have a dog in the fight? they invited them just because they knew what they were going to say would align with the views they push all day on their channel. these cringe montages are classic television narrative spins trying to act like culture is on the same side of the politics they want to promote. Everyone criticize the president and guns, etc. That's certainly not a new perspective

blood honey it's a compliment and when guys like 50 cents gives you a shout out then you know you doing something right. Besides, not to take away anyone else but from what I've seen from him is an understanding way beyond the cryptology of hip hop but an old skool understanding of the roots of the culture and struggle behind it. A ghetto or hood pass is a metaphor for black cultural appreciation of that understanding. Today's so-called hip hop falls far from the underlying currents of its beginnings.

I never understand why America is SO divided. And the amount of racism to me is unbelievable. I lived in Indonesia for about 8 years, my wife is Indonesian. If you have visited Indonesia before, you will witness there are hundreds - yes HUNDREDS of different languages, cultures and races. Most of Indonesian speak at least 2-3 languages. One is their own local language, and the other one is Bahasa which is main language. You can travel just 100 miles and you will see different culture, different food, and language, travel to another 100 mile from there, another different culture, different food, and language. I was amazed when I first know that Indonesia has more than 200 types of "Fried Rice" recipes. Coming from different race/cultures/islands. But people there never talk nor bother about what is what or who is who do or say what and to who or for what? They all just united, accept each other as INDONESIAN. People there don't have a problem with HUNDREDS different kinds of them. America literally only has a FEW different races, black, white, Hispanic, Asian? In Indonesia you will meet A LOT of different race and cultures in one little city/town: Sunda, Jawa, Batak, Bali, Batavia, Madura and A LOT more living side by side and they just see each other as INDONESIAN. First time, to my eyes they all look the same especially their skin, but many Indonesian said no, they are actually different culture and even skin, but they said "Yea, we are from different culture and race but we all Indonesian". I have visited US for more than 5 times. America is a great country, but why many people still so uneducated when it comes to different race or people of color? Why don't you just say it "we are different color but we are all AMERICAN"?

Virtue Signaling I get emotional too, but keep it together. You can use your words all you want, but if action's and policies aren't changed nothing happens. So just like all these athletes, and pop stars they can say they are against something to make them look good. Yet without substance or policy change or follow up they are just in it for the look. Sad. They never look at the bigger picture. Like with immigration for or against: policy change, tax cost, integration facility cost, cost of Education, cost of housing , and so on. Social inequality: policy change, education reform, social education, and what Mr. Trump has been saying is that if we fix the economy, get more jobs, then we get social economic equality. Hate is self-defeating. There is still so much work to be done. Yet the sky hasn't fallen, if we work together we got this. May peace and freedom be with you in your pursuit of happiness.✌️

The point is that he was rich so he could afford bail so he wasn't put in jail pending trial until he started witness tampering while out on bail. People of colour are often denied bail because they are deemed 'a danger to the community" for crimes where a white person would be granted bail. Poor people who are granted bail often cannot afford it and end up staying in jail until trial, which is unfair because that is essentially serving a sentence for a crime you may be found innocent, because of this poor people will often plea to crimes they didn't even commit so that they do not have to serve time in jail. Serving time in jail awaiting trial is more than losing their freedom, they risk losing their jobs and apartments if they had to spend time in jail and miss work and even losing their children to CPS.

Robert The Bruce When you generalize you just show how ignorant you are. Slavery did happen. The ghettos didn't fill themselves. White privilege does exist. I could go and list facts about how black lives, black hands and black minds have built this country and allowed the USA to exist as it is. But you would not accept it because your so ignorant.

This was one of the best discussions that I have heard. I have sent it to several people. It is so sad that we are allowing one person to turn this country upside down. If enough of us don't take a stand we will officially become a dictatorship. Whether our ancestors were brought over unwillingly or came because America was the dream we need to unite for what would clearly be a common goal.
