I am a UK local club dj. Fair play Rick I always steered well clear of being a wedding dj. People don't relize how hard it is I think it's actually way harder than working in a club. My mate who is a wedding dj, I have helped him many times to set up Yes there's pros and cons to every job he used to play in clubs and is a really skilled dj but he got fed up of getting home at 0500 4 nights a week. Wedding djs You have to cater for all sorts of genres of music, all the mauling, the kit set up I have the upmost respect to all wedding djs. But I will stick to my wheels of steel and turning up with my usb stick and keep to club work. Again upmost respect to all wedding and mobile djs. Keep to the 3 p's Polite Positive Professional At all times it goes along way.

I agree with you. People have always been looking for a way to cut back on the enormous cost of a wedding. Venues are definitely the bulk of the price, but backyard weddings have always been popular. I think there is a huge trend for country rustic style weddings because of social media. In the past it just looked like you were being cheap by going the non traditional route. Luckily with the internet people have been able to popularize barn style weddings and share ideas about how to dress up non traditional spaces to make them look special, like the hanging bulb lights you set up. The best part about clients not spending all their money on a venue is that it leaves a lot of room for other vendors to provide more services. For example DJs can push hanging bulb lights, Upligihtng, Totems, Intel lights, Gobos, Subs, TVs etc. My clients usually max out at 2 or 3 upgrades in traditional venues.

Have you thought about getting the EV Evolves? They look amazing and do great in indoor spaces. The PRX subs are great but I understand the draw to column arrays; I've been looking at it myself. RCF also has one with a 15" sub but the one that I was the most intrigued by was the dB ES1203. Like the Turbosound 3000 they have 2x 12" woofers, but it goes lower and gets a bit louder. However the look and easy setup has me drawn to the Evolves. On paper the Evolves go a bit lower than the Turbosound 3000, but its hard to compare them because Turbosound may not "lie" about their SPL numbers
@DJRickWeb5 жыл бұрын
The draw back with the evolves is actually the pole or lack of one. The stock height of the top unit is too low and doesn't carry well over dense crowds. The bass also is impressive but not enough too my ear for more then maybe 100 people. The turbo sound ip 3000 has the same draw back interms of the tweeter array being too low and not carrying well. That's why I am looking at the turbo sound ip300 which is an array top. You can pair that with any sub and since its pole mounted I can put it up nice and high to carry over the crowd

We do outdoor weddings (under a full size tent), but I'm not a big fan. I like A/C and guests do too. We only ever did 1 completely outside (exposed like you were) and I won't do it again. Too much money in our equipment to risk a quick thunderstorm. Even with that little pop up tent your stuff will get wet. You had about $6,000 worth of equipment baking in the sun, just begging for rain... and then you left for Chick Fil A. I would be a nervous wreck.

It is funny you mention about Barn weddings and the cut back... My area is mostly barn wedding venues. I did a wedding last night at a local college. This college location was perfect, as the space is used for their big concerts they bring in. Last year they had the Plain White T's there which is huge for such a small college town. Anyway, I got to asked the manager of this college how much it would cost, I was shocked. For the price of just renting a barn in my area, you could rent and have it catered (with alcohol) by the college for the same price as just renting the barn! Plus have a person controlling stage lighting and having a DJ use their sound system. They were saying that don't do a whole lot of weddings because everyone doesn't think of this college for a wedding, but I would much rather spend 5K on this place to have it catered, lights and a DJ using their sound system than pay for a just renting a space like a barn.
@jayharrison96175 жыл бұрын
Barns are the standard in your area so they're more expensive than other less traditional wedding spaces like the College. The College needs to market to brides and then I'm sure they would do a lot more weddings. Especially, if they are offering a better package at a much cheaper price. I'm assuming the college has an equal level of ambience as the Barn. If not, brides will choose the Barn for its looks over its price. Also, it sounds like the Barns by you offer catering and staff just like traditional venues. In Jersey if you rent a space, the most you get are tables and chairs. You have to do all the work yourself. Which is why they're so cheap.
@DJActionVasquez5 жыл бұрын
I"m in New York City. The biggest competition dj's have over here is -- youtube and a bluetooth speaker. Of course everything here is expensive and people must decide, "hey should we get a venue, or a dj?" (NOT both). A lot of times people with families can't afford both. Talking with "people in the streets," this is a very common thing. Also, I've gotten the rejection line, *nobody cares about a dj anymore.* I feel that, as a dj, it is MY job to show / convince them why hiring me would be better for the occasion. But like I said, most times money is their #1 deciding factor.
@DjHousefromChicago5 жыл бұрын
Very true. Ive been spinning for 30ys now. The biggest competition here in Chicago is the prices. Any guy down the block has a laptop, 3 lights and 2 speakers charges $150-$200 for 6hrs yet has no idea what they are doing. People now days have a less expectations for a dj. They focus on price. The difference is the quality of Dj. God bless and great video.
@DJActionVasquez5 жыл бұрын
@@DjHousefromChicago And over that 30-year span, I'm sure you've seen how dj'ing went from "being an art," to now being "you're still playing with toys?" Those so-called dj's who cut throat, have totally ruined the scene. Lemme give you a "personal" example. My dj partner's family always hires him for their events. So a couple of months ago, they had some family visit from puerto rico and they wanted to have a party. This time, however, they didn't hire my dj partner. Instead for $100 they hired a NON-latino dj, who had NO clue of spanish music, got DRUNK, started sexually harrassing the women, AND got beat up by the crowd. Mind you, this happened in the BEGINNING of the affair, so for the majority of the night there was no music, except people playing youtube on their celly's. And here's the kick in the nuts. AFTER they beat him up, family members were talking about, "oh man, we should have hired will like we always do." I was at a loss for words . . . .
@DjHousefromChicago5 жыл бұрын
@@DJActionVasquez I hear you. That show was included with the $100. Lol. Jk. I've had people that have hired me try other djs for less than half the price I charge and they come back and said they didn't like the dj they hired. But with the same token, i have seen some young djs do there thing. Using modern technology but they do the job right. I thank God I stay busy every weekend and pray the dj business stays strong for the djs all over the world! 🙏🎼🎧

I keep getting outdoor home events here in LA. Super hot though 😅 Although they save money from the larger venues, there have been a few mishaps. Broken porta potties, peeing on their closets by drunk bridesmaids, grandma tripping on concrete landscaping and paramedics showing up, also one ended early because a main sprinkler was broken and the house water had to shut off until it was fixed. Also feel that the hosts or parents are rushed and not enjoying themselves since they are catering to everyone. A trend yes but there’s more than meets the eye and a lot tougher to manage for the client versus being at a venue.
