I remember this kut back in the summer of 1988! I had an Aiwa CS-R10 boombox back then! And I can remember wearing this tape out! Summer 1988!! Great Times! I also had Bobby Brown's tape: "Don't Be Cruel"!! I never even knew this song had a video!! "Parents just don't understand" was on heavy rotation back then on BET and MTV. But this is the first time in 30+ years I ever saw this video! I didn't have much money back then, but I had my music! Had to be careful back then too! Crack cocaine the addicts and drug violence too! My sister and brother in law were both hooked on crack! But this music temporarily helped me escape their misery and hopelessness!

It was re-discovered over a month ago, when someone found a VHS tape with a recording of the music video with the sound slightly distorted and a clip of the TV show Growing Pains overwritting a couple of seconds of ithe tape, but still, it was too big of a discovery to not post it on KZbin, which got taken down because Jazzy Deff decided to make an official upload of it. I'm pretty sure that Deff has always owned a copy of the music video, he just didn't want to upload it until the time was right.

Brings back good memories of cruising Hollywood Blvd Bumppin in my Nissan ST Kingcab
@seekNdestroy2x43 жыл бұрын
I haven’t heard this in 30 years when I was 5 but I remembered exactly how the beat went and how he said “there’s a nightmare on my street.” Im impressed with myself and how something could be that catchy I could remember it after 3 decades, only from hearing my older sister listening to this a few times on cassette. Probably the first rap song I ever heard too

I never noticed that as a kid, I don't think I knew what a tonearm was back then
@VinchVolt5 жыл бұрын
I only first saw the video from the low-quality VCR recording that was uploaded a while back, and the fuzziness of the picture made me think those claws were spoons until I saw this upload.

Because back in 93' the best quality tv only put out 480p. Total dogshit to todays standards.
@SpeakRyanSpeak4 жыл бұрын
@@justinhackstadt6677 vhs and tv quality back then was actually equivalent to between 144p to 360. Also vhs didnt have pixels, so you wouldnt really add the p at the end, it was analog.
@icebergmm4 жыл бұрын
@@SpeakRyanSpeak the "p" doesn't mean pixels, it means progressive. Which is still wrong anyway because "standard definition" in the US was 480i(interlaced) which means only 240 lines were refreshed each frame.

So this song had a music video all along?
@loka77835 жыл бұрын
Well you gotta put it in the perspective that Will Smith was like 19 I think when he and DJ made this song. I am sure the studio was flattered by the fan submission but back then? Virtually no way in heck they'd consider it seriously.
@jaymacc935 жыл бұрын
You know why.
@VoltronPrime5 жыл бұрын
The reason why is much simpler, NLC paid another rap group to make their own version of a nightmare on elm Street song and video that did not have any success as this song. So because they already paid for the other song. This song was made with no written approvals. The forced will and team to destroy all copies of their video and they even had the freddy actor originally in the video. This one is edited and removed him. But I agree they should have made a contract for this song
@lezlethal5 жыл бұрын
I think they already had a deal with the Fat Boys. Who were "safe and funny" rap group at the time.
